**Job title: Child Minder (On-call/Casual)**

Reports to: Director of Settlement, Newcomer Wraparound Support Program

Status: Contract Position

The Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society has been dedicated to immigrants and refugees in Greater Victoria for over 30 years, helping clients from all over the world. It serves more than 3,000 newcomers annually with its programs in the areas of employment, settlement, integration of youth, adults, families and seniors, as well as many other projects and activities.

**Primary Accountability**:
To provide warm and welcoming childminding services in a drop-in space to immigrant and refugee parents while they attend programs at the centre.

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensure children are signed in and out accordingly
- Work as part of a team with staff members
- Provide care to children from infants to school age children within the childminding setting
- Adhere to agency child minding policies, particularly the Behaviour Policy and Emergency Procedures
- Provide supportive, fun, mature childminding services to infants to school age children on a drop-in basis
- Facilitate the delivery of a program which contributes to the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and language development of the age group of children

**Required Qualifications**:

- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check
- Must be at least 19 years of age
- Must have completed a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition, and have relevant work experience
- Responsible adult training is required
- Must provide 3 references
- Must provide proof of a minimum of 20 hours of instruction in topics related to childcare
- Current first aid & CPR
- Confirmation of full vaccination will be required

- Cross-culturally aware and able to engage with people from diverse ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds
- Sensitivity to issues of immigration and refugee trauma, mental health, family conflict, knowledge of adjustment and transitional issues specific to newcomers
- The ability to communicate in additional languages is an asset
- Experienced working as an **Early Childhood Educator** with a current BC License to Practice Early Childhood Education Certification

Wage: $17/hour
