The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the National Government of the Red River Métis - also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are Canada’s Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill **one full-time Junior Writer** position within our **Communications Department **located at 150 Henry Ave in **Winnipeg, MB**. Under the direction of the Communications Director and support of the Head Writer, the Junior Writer will research, write, edit, fact-check, adapt and write articles for web content, newspapers, magazines, and other media outlets, as well as scripts for radio, while working within the Manitoba Métis Federation’s brand standards.
- **Job Duties/Competencies**:_
- Perform research on different topics to obtain factual information and authentic detail, utilizing sources such as newspaper accounts, diaries, interviews, the internet and other methods;
- Perform extensive fact-checking;
- Analyze and interpret findings by breaking down data;
- Uncover newsworthy stories that showcase Citizens, and MMF programs and initiatives;
- Conduct interviews in order to write outlines and rough drafts;
- Create written material including but not limited to scripts for radio/TV, web content, newspaper and magazine articles;
- Edit and proofread text correcting spelling and grammar.
- **Skills and Qualifications**:_
- Post-secondary education in journalism/content development, creative writing, English literature, performing arts, communications or relevant field;
- Minimum two years’ experience writing/editing in a professional setting;
- Demonstrable portfolio of published articles;
- Ability to produce creative work and fact-check information;
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite;
- Knowledge of digital editing, web search and databases;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
- Knowledge of Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
