**Job Summary & Key Responsibilities**
A postdoctoral fellow (PDF) position is open in the School of Social Work, Faculty of Health, Dalhousie University to support Dr. Haorui Wu, Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Resilience, on an umbrella research project entitled: Building a Culture of Community Resilience.

The PDF will assist with various research projects, examining disasters’ diverse impacts across Canada and beyond, with an emphasis on health and well-being of humans and other-than-human co-inhabitants. These projects include (1) environmental health, occupational health, mental health, social determinants of health, and human-animal welfare in disaster settings; (2) disaster education, practice, and policy in Canada and internationally; and (3) community empowerment for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. Job responsibilities include both qualitative and quantitative research design, implementation, data analysis, and publication. Depending on qualifications, the research activities could consist of stakeholder engagement, creating spatial visualizations of data in ArcGIS, drafting policy briefs, developing surveys/questionnaires in Qualtrics, and drafting publications etc.
The position will offer a unique postdoctoral training experience. The PDF will thrive in a start-up atmosphere by being flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, managing multiple tasks efficiently, and being a team player. Based in the School of Social Work, the PDF will be part of a transdisciplinary team from various institutes across Canada and internationally. The PDF will be encouraged to publish extensively, develop advanced technical skills, strengthen their research portfolios, gain expertise in authoring grant proposals, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and conduct domestic and international field research, depending on their interests and prior experience.

**Qualifications/Requirements of Position**
- A doctoral degree in social sciences, health sciences, or related fields (e.g., Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, and/or Urban Planning and Studies) focusing on hazards and disaster research by the appointment start.
- Publication record, including as the first author, in peer-reviewed journals in hazards and disaster research, environmental studies, mental health and related fields;
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills for both professionals and the general public;
- Demonstrated proficiency in using qualitative (e.g., using NVivo or Atlas) and experience in using quantitative analytic software (e.g., SPSS and R);
- Demonstrated project management skills and be able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively as part of a team;
- Evidence of multidisciplinary collaborations in hazards and disaster research, practice, and policymaking; and
- Experience working and living in a multicultural environment and demonstrated cultural sensitivity.

**Salary Range/Pay Rate**
- $50,000 - $60,000/year
