Grip/Driver at Elia Kirby Productions Ltd (EKP Ltd) _doing business as_ Great Northern Way Scene Shop (GNW).

This position is responsible for driving materials, constructed projects, and other items for transport to delivery locations, as well as assisting with installations and strikes; and to assist in the maintenance and operations of the GNW Scene Shop when there is no driving to do.

**ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION**

Elia Kirby Productions Ltd (EKP Ltd), _dba_ the Great Northern Way Scene Shop (GNW), is a production services and custom fabrication company that builds sets, installations, and displays. With a diverse client-base that includes large institutions (e.g. Vancouver Art Gallery) to small nonprofits (e.g. Pacific Theatre) to corporate companies (e.g. TED Talks, Moment Factory, MEC), GNW operates year-round to produce an array of scenic projects and installations. Located at the western edge of the False Creek Flats and within the Arts Factory building, GNW is dedicated to supporting Metro Vancouver's cultural community while providing employment to local artisans and craftspeople.

**ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS**

Reports directly to the Shop Manager, and takes direction from the Director of Production, Project Managers. Supports the Crewing & Logistics Officer, Project Coordinators, Project Leads, and Heads of Departments.

**WORK PERFORMED**

The driver serves the transport needs of the company, as well as provides assistance with installations, strikes, and physical-plant duties, as required:
**Driving Duties**
- Drives company vehicle to deliver, pick-up, and return: constructed projects, materials, and client items for transport service in a safe and timely manner
- Obeys all provincial driving regulations as well as company transport and delivery policies and procedures
- Loads and unloads company and rental vehicles in an efficient and safe manner, ensuring that constructed projects and client items reach their destination in top condition
- Provides excellent client service and builds relationships with vendors and venue managers
- Participates in transport department operations by upholding standards, following vehicle maintenance and repair schedules, maintaining transport records, and communicating effectively with designated staff

**Specialty Labourer & Grip Duties**
- Assists in the coordination of shop space and resource allocations and helps to prepare projects for installation off-site
- Works with Project Leads to assist in the installation and deinstallation (strike) of designs and/or projects at the shop and off-site
- Follows shop and facility procedures to maintain a safe and effective work environment
- Assists with efficient physical-plant operations

**SUPERVISION RECEIVED**

Works under the supervision of the Shop Manager and reports to the Director of Production and Project Managers. Works unsupervised when driving company or rental vehicles and completing tasks based on assigned deadlines.

**SUPERVISION GIVEN**

This position may occasionally oversee tasks performed by casual labourers/grips and on-call drivers.

**EXERCISING JUDGEMENT/IMPACT OF DECISIONS**

Incumbent is responsible for the smooth and safe production practices while operating company and rental vehicles at the main as well as off-site locations. The consequences of errors include: EKP Ltd and client projects could run at a serious resource and financial deficit, and the staff and production personnel may be seriously injured in unsafe working conditions, seriously compromising the organization's ability to operate.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**

GNW is currently located at 281 Industrial Ave, Vancouver BC. Off-site work takes place at various locations throughout the Metro Vancouver area, and sometimes further afield (e.g. Whistler and Kamloops), and possibly into the United States of America. Working conditions include working at heights on scaffolding and/or on a ladder, and/or in a high-reach (aerial lift); fumes or airborne particles requiring the use of a respirator; working with or around paint/solvents/aerosols (e.g. spray paints); using a motorized company vehicle or a leased or personal vehicle for company business. Working in non-weather conditions that may be wet, or humid, in extreme cold or heat; working with or near compressed gas cylinders or tanks; working with or near toxic or caustic chemicals, hazardous chemicals, fluorescent lamps or batteries. Exposure to loud noise levels. Outdoor weather conditions include direct sunlight, wind, and rain.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- High school graduation with a minimum of 2-years professional experience in the fields of technical theatre, production services, event logistics, and/or delivery services
- Class 5 drivers license required and a clean driver’s abstract from ICBC
- Proven experience driving 1- and 5-tonne trucks
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs/22 kg and effectively use handtrucks, pallet jacks, carts,
