Position Summary:
The primary duties will include:
LLS operating: Be the key person for the LLS microscope (80% of working time). Work with researchers to develop experimental designs to address specific research questions. Including consultation on preparing samples, images and data for presentations and publications. Operate the system in an assisted acquisition methods working directly with users.

LLS Image Data Management and Analysis: Work with the ABIF team to develop data management and sharing strategies for large LLS datasets and to develop custom image analysis pipelines.

LLS maintenance: Execute regular maintenance of the equipment. Develop and modify maintenance protocols on an ongoing basis. Analyze and interpret quality control information. Work with the manufacturer to initiate and oversee instrument repairs. Document all equipment service events.

LLS networking: Promote the LLS to McGill laboratories, across Canada and internationally. Work with visiting scientists on the instrument to gather and analyze image data

LLS Training: Work with the ABIF team to develop and implement LLS training and education events. Participate in LLS training events nationally and internationally as needed.

ABIF tasks: Work with the ABIF team to support regular facility operations and conduct routine training as needed (20% of working time).

Policies and Procedures: Ensure facility users adhere to facility policies and procedures. Ensure appropriate training and access to equipment for facility users.

Education and Training: Will participate in courses, workshops and tutorials to educate facility users. Must maintain own knowledge about developments in the LLS field.

Qualifications:
1. PhD in preferred areas including Biophysics, Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Bioengineering.

2. Five years of relevant experience.

3. Preferred: at least one year of experience in a scientific platform: maintenance and training.

4. Understanding and hands-on experience in optical microscopy and imaging instruments on live and fixed samples.

5. Familiarity with imaging and image analysis software: ImageJ, Imaris, LASAF, ZEN, MetaMorph.

6. Experience working in a dynamic environment. Must be able to manage a diverse set of obligations on a daily basis with rapidly changing demands and priorities.

7. Strong interpersonal skills for working with facility users, principal investigators and potential new clients within the research community.

8. Ability to communicate complex ideas to people new to the field.

9. Ability to work independently and efficiently but also work well as a part of a team.
- Knowledge of French and English:_ _McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4._
