- Reporting to the Manager of Collections Services, the Technical Services Supervisor is responsible for providing supervision and efficient operation of the cataloguing, acquisitions and processing functions of the Collections Services Department. The incumbent act as the lead cataloguer and makes technical decisions involving the creation, use and management of machine-readable bibliographic records according to nationally accepted technical standards. The incumbent will also advise on additional efficiencies that can be achieved through ongoing relationships with vendors and staff to recommend processing and cataloguing related activities that can be completed by the staff for expediency and cost effectiveness.

- **What you’ll be doing**
- Schedule and coordinate the activities of the technical services staff such as, cataloguing, acquisitions and processing functions, to ensure that all routines and services are maintained and that budgeted hours are properly allocated.
- Supervise technical services staff of the Collections Services Department; coordinate staff meetings; assist in evaluating job performance and in staff selection.
- Train technicians and supervises the training of Library Assistants in the Collections Services Department.
- Explain, interpret and resolve complaints and questions related to cataloguing, acquisitions and processing procedures.
- Prepare and generate statistical and other reports.
- Participate in various committees; and establish and implement cataloguing practices and operational efficiencies.
- Provide advice and technical assistance to others on matters related to the technical functions of Collections Services.
- Search, analyze and obtain bibliographic records from online databases.
- Act as lead cataloguer to perform original cataloguing and/or edit existing catalogue records according to accepted standards and practices; make technical decisions involving the creation, use and management of machine-readable bibliographic records according to nationally accepted technical standards.
- Make recommendation for major systems impacts, coding and cataloguing standards and practices; and maintain and manage the catalogue database.
- Liaise with vendors to research and recommend ‘shelf-ready’ processing options as they become available.
- Assist in creating and maintaining policies and procedures for the Collections Services Department.
- Perform related work as required.

**What you’ll need to succeed**
Diploma in Library Technology from a recognized Library Technician’s program, plus sound related experience including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and training.
- Considerable knowledge of the objectives, organization, policies, procedures and services of the Library.
- Considerable knowledge of library automated systems as related to the acquisition, cataloguing and support of the Library collection.
- Considerable knowledge of on line databases and publisher systems as related to the acquisition and cataloguing of materials.
- Ability to classify and catalogue a wide range of library materials.
- Ability to supervisor, lead, direct, train and maintain good working relationships with staff.
- Ability to plan, organize and carry out assigned duties within the library.
- Ability to communicate effectively, written and spoken, including the communication of technical ideas and issues.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the work including safe handling of materials.
- Ability to work in a fast paced and stressful environment.

The hourly pay rate for this unionized position starts at $33.25 (2024 rates), based on a 35-hour workweek, plus a generous benefits package.
