Assessment accommodation
**Duties**:
Participate in the operation and maintenance of a wide range of building systems.
Monitor and adjust control systems for optimal performance.
Respond to equipment emergencies and provide troubleshooting support to identify and remedy problems.
Carry out and assist in the development of the preventive and legislated maintenance program.
Perform inspection and repair for a variety of equipment within various building trade disciplines.
**Work environment**:
As one of multiple Natural Resources Canada Forestry Research Centres, this position is based at the Pacific Forestry Centre in Victoria BC.
The incumbent will work as part of the facilities management team to provide building maintenance which supports the delivery of scientific research by our clients, as well as, 24/7 standby coverage to ensure continuous operation of critical systems.

**Education**:
Successful completion of secondary school OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Degree equivalency
Occupational certification:
Possess at least one of the following Technical Qualifications Certificates (TQ) valid in the Province of British Columbia; Fourth Class Power Engineering; Building Environmental Systems Operator Class II; Plumbing, Millwright, Electrical or HVAC; OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
**Experience**:
Experience in the operation and maintenance of a major scientific research facility or other institution with mechanical, electrical, fire protection and energy management systems.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas-fired hot water heating plant with computerized controls.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of refrigeration systems and controls, HVAC equipment and standby generators.
Experience in the safe operation and repair of a variety of shop tools such as welding and pipe threading machines, band, table and chop saws or drill press.
Asset / Experience:
Experience with low pressure steam boilers and steam sterilizing units would be an asset.
Asset / Knowledge:
Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations such as the Boiler and Pressure Vessels Act would be an asset.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration units, auxiliary pumps and re-circulation systems.
Knowledge of energy conservation measures, heat recovery systems and energy management systems.
Knowledge of safety practices applicable to hot water heating and refrigeration systems.
Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations such as the ASHRAE standards and Provincial guidelines.
Knowledge of the applicable preventative maintenance procedures of all HVAC systems and auxiliary equipment.
Abilities:
Ability to trouble-shoot various types of equipment within the facility, using a variety of measuring instruments, and affect the repairs.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to interpret data outputs, graphical displays, printouts and maintain operating records.
Ability to perform running maintenance and minor repair tasks.
