The Ministry of Forests is responsible for supporting a sustainable and competitive future for B.C.’s forest sector, while taking action to keep forests healthy and protect communities in the face of climate change and extreme weather events.
- As an Economist you will work under the supervision of a senior economist to conduct economic, statistical, and modeling projects by developing and managing data, ensuring accuracy of computations and methodologies, reporting on results, and conducting comprehensive economic and statistical analysis. You would also work on regular economic publications, information notes, presentations, and general data management.- **Job Requirements**:

- Master’s degree or in final stages of completing a Master’s degree in economics or directly related field incorporating quantitative analysis, or equivalent, OR;
- Bachelor’s degree in economics or directly related field incorporating quantitative analysis, or equivalent, and at least two years of related work experience, OR;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related work experience must include at least four (4) of the following:
- Experience conducting quantitative economic or statistical analysis ranging from quantitatively based market research to statistics projects and cost-benefit/impact analysis.
- Experience accessing and cleaning large datasets and using that data to support analysis.
- Experience summarizing results in reports or publications including tables and charts.
- Experience programming in some manner (different languages or statistical programs). Specific examples of complex Excel functions and interconnected tables and sheets can be included here.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
- Experience working with large data sets, Statistics Canada data, and the visualization of results and trends in presentations and reports.
- Experience working in forests, lands, or other natural resource management settings, particularly within their complex data environment.
- Experience doing analysis on the forest sector.
- Experience working for a government entity.
- Background in economics.
- Experience with PowerBI, programming in R or using GIS software.
