**Transit Driver**

**This position offers an hourly wage rate of $22.90 to $28.62 (2023 rates), 35 hours per week. 2024 rates are under review.**

**Position **S**ummary**:
Reporting to the Fleet, Facilities & Transit Supervisor, the Transit Driver will be responsible for safely operating transit vehicles in accordance with applicable legislation, including during adverse road and weather conditions, on a designated route and schedule. This role is responsible for collecting fares, issuing transfers, and ensuring the validity of transfers and passes. The Transit Driver will perform daily inspections, monitor vehicle performance, and report any irregularities to Operations.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Safely operate transit vehicles on time and in a proper manner, including during adverse road and weather conditions, on a designated route and schedule.
- Abide by Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Manual of Operations, all other applicable legislation, Town policies and procedures.
- Collect fares and issue transfers, while ensuring validity of transfers and passes.
- Report and document all incidents, accidents and injuries immediately.
- Be proactive and help Operations by reporting other information and problems impacting transit services such as route blockages, accident locations, traffic congestion, weather and road conditions.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections.
- Regulate heating, lighting, ventilation, operate doors and gate etc.
- Monitor vehicle performance and report any irregularities to Operations.

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Valid Ontario class B/C or F driver’s license with Z endorsement.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of commercial driving experience required. Previous transit bus driving experience would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated recent experience working with the public, normally acquired through substantial and direct customer-service work that includes interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, statutory holidays and split shifts, in all types of weather conditions.
- Strong communication and comprehension skills, including the ability to complete forms.
- Efficient problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to withstand or recover from difficult situations while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
- A very high degree of punctuality and attendance to support transit operations.

**Effort/Physical Demands**:

- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- Reaching, gripping, and pushing/pulling.
- Twisting and turning neck.
- Sensory/perceptual demands.
- Regular exposure to fumes, odours, and moderate noise.
- Visual attention for health and safety compliance and personal safety while on the job.

**Working Conditions**:

- Work in all weather conditions (heat/cold).
- May be required to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, holidays, and split shifts.
- Will be required to work on an on-call basis.
