The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is a not-for-profit organization tasked with the safe, long-term management of Canada’s used nuclear fuel inside a deep geological repository, in a manner that protects people and the environment for generations to come.
- Founded in 2002, the NWMO has been guided for 20 years by a dedicated team of world-class scientists, engineers and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers that are developing innovative and collaborative solutions for nuclear waste management. Canada’s plan will only proceed in an area with informed and willing hosts, where the municipality, First Nation and Métis communities, and others in the area are working together to implement it. The NWMO plans to select a site in 2024, and two areas remain in our site selection process: the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation-Ignace area in northwestern Ontario and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation-South Bruce area in southern Ontario.

- Job Summary:

- We are currently seeking an experienced Relationship Manager - South Bruce to join our Site Selection team. Reporting the Site Director, and based out of our Community Office in Teeswater, the Relationship Manager is responsible for leading and planning the company’s interactions with assigned siting community.

**Responsibilities**:

- Establish and build relationships with community leaders that are involved in the siting process. Develop and implement plans which consider the specific circumstances of the community and execute this plan.
- Establish and build relationships with key influencers in the community and surrounding area. Develop and implement plans which consider the specific circumstances of the community and execute this plan.
- Establish and build relationships with the Community Liaison Group in the community, public interest groups, local chambers of commerce and service groups. Develop and implement plans which consider the specific circumstances of the community and execute this plan.
- Participate in shared planning with mayors, councillors, and key influencers in the community, as invited by the community. Provide presentations and briefings on the Adaptive Phased Management (APM) plan for the long-term management of used nuclear fuel, the deep geological repository project and the siting process to diversified audiences.
- Plan and lead the NWMO’s engagement interactions with the community. Work with the senior NWMO leaders and support groups to ensure that positive relationships are developed and maintained in the interests of the long-term plan. Develop and implement plans to marshal the internal resources of the NWMO to support relationship building in the community and overall success of NWMO. Participate in senior management meetings to review and discuss work plan updates and to discuss, clarify and establish actions based on siting needs and requirements.
- Represent the NWMO at events such as open houses, community fairs, meetings with community groups, conferences, public meetings, sponsored activities, etc. As required, manage on-the-ground communications requirements at NWMO events.
- Ensure employee health and safety, supporting a strong safety culture and ensuring employee activities meet or exceed the health, safety and environment requirements as outlined in NWMO policies, procedures and standards.
- Provide direction to departmental staff, establish clear roles and responsibilities and annual performance objectives as well as provide regular performance feedback, coaching and training.
- Proactively identify issues and concerns in the community which may weaken the relationship with the NWMO, or diminish the success of the community in the siting process, and develop and implement strategies to address these issues and concerns before they impact on the relationship
- Proactively identify opportunities to strengthen relationships in the community, or support the community in the siting process, and develop and implement strategies to capitalize on these opportunities to the benefit of the NWMO and the community in the site selection process.
- Establish short and long term business plans and strategies to meet organizational and departmental objectives. Develop and manage departmental budget.
- Brief community groups on the work of the NWMO in order to build confidence and support.
- Develop, write and edit reports on local and regional stakeholders engaged on the siting process.
- Identify and plan for the participation in local and regional conferences and trade shows to support siting.
