**About Us**:
The Recreation, Ecology and Lands Program of Lands Coordination and Delivery North is segmented into two Districts, Northwest and Northeast. The Northeast District includes the communities of Cold Lake, Fort McMurray, Lac La Biche, Athabasca, Slave Lake, Whitecourt, and Swan Hills.

**Role**:
Do you consider yourself an outdoors person who as comfortable in an office setting working with technical specifications as they are the bush assessing conditions of remote infrastructure? Well, there may be an opening for you in our Lands North Recreation Program team situated in the northeastern portion of the province.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individual that has a passion for the outdoors to fill this Recreation Coordinator position located in Lac La Biche. Other locations may be considered within the Northeast District that are reasonably close to Lac La Biche.

Reporting to the Senior Recreation Management Specialist, this position supports recreation infrastructure initiatives on Crown Land for the purposes of increasing outdoor-recreation and nature-based tourism opportunities on a multiple use landscape. The focus of support is on efficient operation, repair, refurbishment and expansion of staging areas, day use sites, campgrounds, trail heads, roads, trails, bridges, and other recreational related infrastructure within the region.

The Recreation Coordinator position is expected to:

- Ensure overall sustainability of public land by ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance of project work, understand management best practices as applied to project work and develop project documents for referrals to applicable government programs
- Support the Recreational Specialist in prioritizing field projects with volunteers, providing field support for volunteers, partner organizations, and stakeholders working on projects supporting public land recreation including trail development and maintenance, and associated infrastructure works
- Manage professional services contracts within budgets, policies, and procedures to ensure all projects are designed effectively and in accordance with applicable professional standards
- Provide oversight during “direct Crown” activities
- Ensure appropriate approvals are in place and documented
- Identify project scope, create Project Charters and Request for Quotes (RFQ's) or Request for Proposals (RFP's) where required for assigned project and evaluate bid submissions.
- Operate and maintain recreational infrastructure such as staging areas, day use, campgrounds, trail heads, roads, trails, bridges and other recreational related infrastructure within the region

Please note: This position is classified as temporary and anticipated to be required for a minimum of three years.

**Qualifications**:
**Requirements**:

- Technical Diploma in Natural Sciences, Land Management or civil engineering and construction
- 2 years of related experience working in resource management, nature-based tourism, partnership tourism, contract management or project coordination

**Other requirements include**:

- Valid Driver’s License (Class 5 or equivalent)
- Defensive driving certification
- First Aid certification (CPR Level C)

**Assets include**:

- Previous experience working in the outdoors, and working alone in remote areas
- Knowledge of Alberta crown land management, natural resource management, and relevant legislation and regulations
- Technical communication skills
- Proficiency in ArcGIS
- OHV certification and operational experience
- Experience towing trailers
- Experience operating 4x4 vehicles
- Experience with using compass, map and GPS navigation devices.
- ICS 100 training
- Radio operator certification
- Chainsaw certification
