**Full-time Health Care Aide - Mobile Support Team**

**Description of Purpose**

The HCA is an essential part of the George Spady Society. Their main role is to provide personal assistance and ongoing support services clients in our permanent supportive housing programs. The HCA is responsible for providing medical and daily living assistance for residents including assistance with cooking, bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and other personal hygiene activities as well as assisting in mobility and exercise as needed. The HCA always works within a harm reduction framework and with a trauma informed lens.

**Description of Duties and Responsibilities**
- The Health Care Aide's (HCA) report directly to the coordinator of the program to which they are assigned
- The HCA will be responsible for giving daily medical and personal assistance as needed in a harm reduction model which will include medication administration, wound care and other medical assistance
- Assists with a range of motion exercises
- Assists in the daily cleaning duties (beds, floors, etc.)
- Assists with bathing, grooming, dressing, and other personal hygiene activities
- Assists clients with daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, and organizing in an inclusive and educational manner
- Transports clients to medical/well-being/recovery related appointments
- Interacts with MST clients in a non-judgmental way, using de-escalation and rapport building techniques
- Ensure all clients are treated in a professional, non-judgmental, and dignified manner at all times
- Provide friendly, understanding, and positive support for clients
- The HCA is expected to work well in a team environment and follow the policies and procedures of the George Spady Society
- Participate in team efforts to maintain a healthy physical environment for our clients
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy patient environment by following George Spady Society standards and procedures, maintaining security precautions, and following prescribed dietary requirements and nutrition standards
- Maintains case notes and updates the George Spady Society client files
- Updates and maintains information on referrals sources using the FYI and/or ETO database
- Participates in shift change meetings
- Attend staff meetings as required
- There will be opportunities to participate in ongoing learning and training opportunities as identified on yearly performance review
- Any other tasks assigned by the Program Manager

**Position Requirements**
- Recognized Health Care Aide certificate (or equivalent)
- Willing to work 12-hour shifts, including on Saturdays and Sundays; specific time frames to be determined
- Demonstrates understanding of the addictions field
- Experience working with people with complex life circumstances associated with substance-related disorders, mental health issues, mobility issues and homelessness
- Basic understanding of harm reduction principles based on dignity, hope and healing as individuals move forward towards improved health and well-being
- Excellent computer, typing and customer relation skills
- An open, accepting and non-judgmental attitude with an ability to build rapport with clients and staff
- Two million in liability insurance ensure safe transport of clients to and from appointments
- Current and clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check is required
- An understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) as well as experience working with Indigenous Community Members.
