This land surveyor-in-training opening provides for articling under an Ontario Land Surveyor to acquire experience and knowledge necessary for your Ontario Land Surveyor License.

Please note there are two positions available, one located in North Bay and the other in London.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this position, you will:

- attain the experience necessary for your Ontario Land Surveyor (OLS) License
- plan and supervise project survey work, and participate in the work of a survey crew(s)
- record survey data, prepare field notes/reports, draft plans, process data, perform calculations, assess evidence and resolve complex survey problems
- preparing estimates, planning projects and managing service provider assignments, and preparing documents and appraisals
- research information sources including MTO, MNRF and Land Registry Office records to compile survey project data
- develop professional expertise and an awareness of survey standards and law through continuing education, reading case law and technical journals, attending conferences, courses and seminars, and reviewing manuals.

NOTE: This position requires the ability to travel within the province including transporting surveying staff and equipment as well as traveling independently to work-sites and other locations not served or accessible by public transit, using assigned ministry vehicle as required based on assignment requirements.

**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**:

- You must meet the requirements of the AOLS to register as an Articling Surveyor.

- You are able to monitor progress towards deliverables and make specific changes in your own work processes to meet business objectives and/or improve performance.

- You have oral communication and active-listening skills to explain complex policies, procedures and techniques.

You have the ability to comprehend, and ensure information is understood.
- You have written communication skills to accurately document information and prepare reports.
- You have written and oral communication skills to prepare and present presentation material related to surveying aspects of a project.

- You are able to develop and maintain relationships with diverse internal and external clients and respond in an appropriate and professional manner.
- You are able to establish mutual trust and credibility with colleagues and team members.
- You are able to support team successes and work to resolve issues or concerns.

**Analytical, Problem-Solving Skills and Judgement**:

- You are able to interpret data from a variety of sources, assessing evidence and resolving complex survey problems.
- You are able to analyze relationships among several parts of a problem or situation.
- You are able to conduct research of internal and external information sources to compile data necessary for survey projects.
- You are able to develop experience, knowledge, and expertise in surveying.

**Technical Knowledge**:

- You have knowledge of the theory, principles and production of legal and engineering surveys and plans as well as statutes and regulations related to land law and highway jurisdiction, land registration, expropriation, acquisition and disposal of property.
