The Team:
The SECURE Richmond Transfer Station is dedicated to safely and efficiently handling hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The team works collaboratively to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company guidelines.
Work Environment:
A Day in The Life:
- Identify, verify, and receive hazardous and non-hazardous waste entering the facility.
- Perform field level waste identification tests as required to ensure paperwork accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare waste samples for laboratory analysis as required.
- Ensure waste is accurately packaged, classified, documented and stored.
- Update waste tracking system(s) and communicate with Project Coordinators and the Billing team.
- Ensure all required documents adhere to legal requirements as well as maintain compliance within SECURE guidelines.
- Consolidate and repack waste as required for efficient processing and transportation.
- Actively participate in safety meetings and daily tailgate meetings.
- Perform repair & maintenance tasks and general labour duties as required.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement actions such as Hazard Identifications, non-conformance reports, Hazard Hunts, and Inspections.
- Abide by SECURE’s Occupational Health and Safety Program
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- Technical and regulatory knowledge related to the hazardous waste disposal industry, with the ability to ensure compliance with TDG Regulations.
- Effective time management skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines individually and part of a team.
- Competent computer skills including MS Office and ability to learn SECURE’s suite of waste tracking and compliance programs.
- Attention to detail and an ability to accurately complete various documents such as waste manifests or bills of lading, inspection reports, and safety paperwork.
- Ability to follow direction as well as understand and adhere to written processes as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures or other instructional documents.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, and spend a significant portion of each day on your feet.
- Physically fit and able to perform physical tasks including lifting, pushing, pulling, opening, or closing various containers and other heavy objects.
- Post-secondary education related to Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Studies would be an asset.
- Previous experience with TDG and WHMIS would be an asset, as well as experience with shipping & receiving or warehouse processes.
- Good understanding of the regional Occupational Health and Safety requirements and ability to operate mobile equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Experience operating a forklift or other mobile equipment would be an asset.
