The City of Penticton is looking to fill the position of **Instrumentation / Electrical Technician **at our Water Treatment Plant. The City of Penticton's Water Treatment Plant is a subsidiary of the Engineering Department and is supervised by the Water Quality Supervisor. The Water Treatment division has two distinct areas of focus: Operation of the Water Treatment Plant and Operations of the Water Boosters Stations and Reservoirs. The team at the Water Treatment Plant ensures that the City of Penticton will continue to have high quality water that meets the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines far into the future.

Under the general direction of the Water Quality Supervisor, the Instrumentation / Electrical Technician works as part of the operations team on the electrical and instrumentation infrastructure within the Wastewater and/or Water departments. The incumbent is required to prioritize many different tasks according to the needs of the systems. The job involves continuous exposure to plant noise and to chemicals used in wastewater and water treatment. The incumbent is also required to maintain courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in communication with both internal and external contacts and contractors. Safety is of critical importance and knowledge of WorksafeBC regulations, Electrical codes and CSA standards is required.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Performs the installation, calibration, preventative maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of electrical equipment and instrumentation pertaining to the City's wastewater treatment plant, wastewater collection, and water treatment plant and water distribution systems.
- Participates in budget process by researching details for capital and operating projects and participating in design reviews for engineering projects.
- Investigates system alarms on callouts as required and makes repairs or adjustments.
- Compiles data, prepares and reviews electronic reports, and completes logs detailing work completed.
- Makes recommendations on technical matters to supervisors and foremen to optimize treatment efficiency and meet regulatory requirements.
- The incumbent will be required to research and initiate ordering of equipment, supplies and services.
- Works safely at all times and has a detailed knowledge of WorksafeBC regulations, Electrical code, and CSA standards especially regarding Arc-flash.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills**:

- Detailed knowledge of electrical codes and the methods and safety requirements applicable to the work.
- Valid BC Driver's License Minimum Class 5.
- Proven ability in troubleshooting plant processes using PLCs, data and traditional methods..
- Ability to perform multiple tasks, establish priorities, and respond calmly and efficiently in an emergency situation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Preferred knowledge of the general operation of wastewater and water treatment systems.
- Ability to, at times, work after hours and on weekends.

**Preferred Education, Training & Experience**:

- Completion of Senior Secondary School or its equivalent.
- B.C. or Interprovincial Journeyman Certificate in the trade of Industrial Electrician.
- FSR B ticket.
- 3+ years of instrumentation experience.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered as recognized by the City of Penticton.
