Junior Camp Counsellor

Responsible for the safety and well-being of Recreation & Culture Camp participants during camp swim times and staff breaks including assisting in the planning of activities, supervising assigned participants; participating in games, songs and crafts; performing first aid; responding to questions/concerns from program participants and/or referring to appropriate staff. Must be flexible to work a range of hours on an on-call basis at various locations.

Job Requirements
- Counsellor in Training program or Babysitting course or equivalent.
- Less than 1 year related volunteer or work experience working with toddlers, children and/or youth.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with camp participants and staff.
- Good leadership skills.
- Must be flexible to work a range of hours (at times on an on-call basis) at various locations.
- Must be able to participate in swimming activities and oversee camp participants in pre-set swim groups which comply with Town of Newmarket ratios.
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required.
- Lifesaving Society’s Safeguard certification required.
- Current High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development) certification required.
- Safe Management or Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification is an asset.
- Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town (Those 18 Years & Older) or the completion of Declaration of Minors - Working with Vulnerable Individuals Self Declaration Form (Those 17 Years and Younger) is required.
