**Holistic Emergency Preparedness and Response**
**Position title**:Search and Rescue (SAR) Prevention - Indigenous Community Engagement Specialist

**Hourly Wages**:$34.50-$40.50 (Based on Qualifications)

**Job Summary**
**Responsibilities**:
**Consultation and Engagement**
- Develop and execute engagement strategies with Indigenous communities across Canada.
- Facilitate meetings, workshops, and consultations to gather feedback relevant to AdventureSmart’s adaptation.
**Strategic Planning**
- Provide insights on best practices for building sustainable relationships with Indigenous parties of interest.
- Assist in creating engagement plans and communication strategies that respect Indigenous perspectives.
- Develop and maintain educational engagement support documents
**Research and Reporting**
- Conduct research on Indigenous policies, practices, and community needs to inform SARVAC’s program approach.
- Prepare regular reports and recommendations based on research findings and community feedback.
**Collaboration**
- Engage and collaborate with SAR prevention partners, assisting agencies and individuals.
- Collaborate closely with SARVAC teams and Indigenous leaders to align engagement goals and activities.
- Support the implementation of community-informed strategies within AdventureSmart’s ongoing projects.
**Additional Responsibilities**
- Use various traditional and classical information transfer options, as well as various media and technology platforms to meet engagement process needs.
- Use known education principles and stay up to date on new training methods and techniques.
- Be a collaborating team member, as well as follow direction from supervisors.
- Be held to a higher standard than the general population.

- Other duties as assigned related to Indigenous SAR Prevention engagement and emergency management.
**Operational Requirements**:
- Willing and able to travel including to remote locations by various modes of transportation (i.e.: small and large aircraft, all-terrain vehicles, boats, helicopters, etc.)
- Willing and able to work weekends and evenings.
- Willing and able to work overtime.
- Willing and able to work flexible hours to support community engagements.
- Willing and able to work remotely and onsite.
- Adherence to WorkSafe and Health and Safety.
- Report directly to a supervisor.
- Participate in personnel performance appraisals.
- Support with equipment delivery and field training sessions.
- Use known education principles and stay up to date on new training methods and techniques.
- Assist with preparing and ordering educational aids and materials.
- Manage and maintain Holistic EPR field equipment.
- Research and recommend new training methods, such as web-delivery tools.
**Workplace Requirements**:
**Physical Demands**
- Desk and computer work with long periods of manual dexterity activities (keyboard operations, filing, administration)
- Field work and travel in variable weather conditions
- Carrying boxes, presentation equipment, backpacks etc.

**Qualifications**:
**Skills**
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and governance.
- Flexibility to travel and engage with communities across diverse regions and cultural settings.
- The ability to understand and appreciate the values, beliefs, and behaviors of people from different cultures/communities.
- Understanding of SAR programs and prevention (AdventureSmart knowledge is an asset)
- Competency in Indigenous learning frameworks
- Knowledge of Indigenous rights and legal frameworks.
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Experience in information technology; including proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and digital learning technologies.
- Clearly and effectively communicate with Indigenous partners and community representatives.
- Experience in project management and strategic planning.
- Ability to work as an energetic and dependable team player.
