The OR Instrument Liaison is a member of a specified OR Specialty Team within the Perioperative Services Program.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Act as a resource to OR/MDRD Team Leaders and staffAnticipate the needs of the patient´s surgery and team members, and seek to provide assistance, minimize or eliminate problemsCommunicate with MDRD staff to ensure correct instruments are processed and ready for upcoming cases, rapid turnarounds etc.Assists with the daily flow of instruments immediately post-operatively in the OR and collaborates with MDRD to ensure the timely sterilization of said instruments. Identifies instruments needs to be sent for STAR.Co-ordinate with MDRD and TL to ensure that STAR requests are processed in a timely and appropriate manner.Ensure the required products are available for planned procedures (correct case carts, traveling carts, implants/loaners, etc) for both elective and emergency casesReview scheduled cases the day before to ensure product availability for surgical cases.Familiarized with specialty instruments, medical devices and equipment, maintain skills and utilize new procedures while demonstrating support and awareness of change.Work collaboratively with all members of the OR/MDRD team and contribute to a positive work environment.Ensure the correct care, maintenance and repair of instruments/equipment according to hospital protocol and manufactures instructions.Inspect, assemble and keep inventory of all the positioning aids use in both Neuro and Spine ServiceMaintain the equipment both in the storage room and in the hallway by keeping it neat and tidy and ensuring all equipment/machine are in good working conditions as checked by Biomed.Anticipate possible conflicts of equipment/positioning aids based on scheduled and emergency cases. Inform the team leader if there will be a conflictKeep track of the supplies needed for the shaving trays, and maintain the positioning aids and accessories in the allotted wire cart neat and tidy.Assist with the different room set up by coordinating with the PSAs and to make sure everything is complete before the patient is brought in the room.Prepare reports for damaged instruments detailing the specific nature of the occurrence and possible causes and suggestion for improvement.Ensure adequate

replacement of instruments/equipment in collaboration with the Team Leader and CLM to maximize efficiency and service to patients.Responsible for the instrument and equipment management ensuring that all incomplete sets are completed as soon as replacement instrumentation becomes available.Responsible for quality control audits of instruments/equipment on a regular basis as directed by CPD Manager and OR CLM.Responsible for understanding the specialty supply needs of the service and working with the material management team and the specialty TL to ensure inventory flow and adequate par levels for surgical needs.Trouble shoot changes in inventory or new products and their availability.Promptly inform the OR CLM, TL, OR Materials Coordinator and MDRD of any delays, changes in product, product recall, discontinued items or any other information which could impact patient safety and OR activity.Responds to other duties as requested by OR CLM, Patient Care Coordinator, and TL.Participatein staff meetings.Facilitate in service training sessions as required. Collaborate with other departments to coordinate services, e.g. housekeeping.Adhere to hospital policies and procedures.Maintain patient/family confidentiality.
- QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge and skills at the post-secondary level or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience, supplemented by recent relevant experience in a Perioperative settingKnowledge of relevant OR processes, ideally linked to specialty.Knowledge and/or experience of relevant MDRD processes.Ability to understand the correct care and maintenance of instrument and equipment.Ability to understand the principles of aseptic practice and infection control.Demonstrated ability to perform inventory management.Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work well with others within a team.Excellent attendance record.
