**Do you have a passion for knowledge and excellent customer service skills? Oakville Public Library has seven library branches that are dedicated to serving the diverse community of Oakville. In this role, you’ll work within the Collection Development Department to catalogue library material and maintain library records to ensure ease of access for customers.**

**What you'll do**
**As a Cataloguing and Metadata Technician you will**:

- Create original and derived MARC records in house for all formats according to established international cataloguing and classification principles, and local library practices
- Catalogue unique materials and special collections according to OPL guidelines
- Ensure bibliographic records conform to OPL guidelines and run and review reports
- Batch import, review the vendor-supplied MARC records, edit, and add data according to established OPL material-specific procedures to provide optimum access to staff and customers
- Under leadership direction, develop and implement local classification schemas, develop training for library staff on cataloguing and metadata projects and create and maintain procedures and guidelines for metadata creation for all materials
- Index local newspaper articles and notices for birth, death and marriages for archival purposes using VITA Toolkit
- Identify, troubleshoot and correct errors with MARC records and item information
- Support on-going enhancements to library metadata and associated workflows and identify gaps or issues in existing controlled vocabularies
- Participate in database cleanup and record maintenance projects, working with staff from other teams to troubleshoot and problem-solve as needed
- Maintain a professional awareness of developments and current issues in the field of cataloguing and their implications for OPL cataloguing practices
- Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, other relevant health and safety legislation, and the Oakville Public Library’s Health & Safety Program
- Assist with other duties as assigned

- Experience with AACR2, RDA, LCSH, DDC, MARC Standards, MarcEdit, VITA Digital Toolkit, Keyboard Express
- Experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS) cataloguing module, Symphony and BLUEcloud experience considered an asset.
- Knowledge of cataloguing tools such as BookWhere, WebDewey, and OCLC Connexion

**Your experience and educational background**:

- Library and Information Technician diploma with minimum 2 years’ experience working with metadata and cataloguing
