**General Accountability**:

- Reporting to the Senior Project integrator, the incumbent provides on-site inspection, support and guidance during the manufacturing process by providing technical information regarding end user requirements throughout the manufacture, delivery, testing and new vehicle commissioning activities. The Vehicle Inspector performs a liaison role between the operating departments and the Sustainable Innovation Department during the manufacturing and commissioning processes and keeps all parties informed of the status of progress. The Vehicle Inspector also provides guidance to the in-plant inspectors and liaises with various TTC departments and manufacturers regarding configuration issues. During periods of project inactivity, the incumbent is required to conduct technical investigations of problem reports, employee suggestions and complete technical design and non-revenue vehicle specification work.**Key Job Functions**:

- Representing the TTC as a Vehicle Inspector with special knowledge of the needs of the TTC pertaining to vehicle configuration and operation by participating in formal and informal meetings with the contractor staff throughout the manufacturing/acceptance process.
- Meeting with all levels of personnel from various TTC departments (e.g. transit operations, vehicle maintenance etc.) in order to determine their requirements for vehicle/equipment design, configuration, technical specifications and desired in-service dates, provide routine written and verbal progress reports on work completion.
- Assisting the vehicle or component manufacturer in understanding the details of the specified needs of the TTC.
- Assisting the Project Co-ordinator in reviewing prototype components or assemblies and pilot buses (sometimes requiring out of town/province/country travel).
- Under the direction of the Senior Project Integrator, interpreting specifications and drawings from manufacturers of vehicles and components to ensure compliance with TTC specifications.
- Reviewing and approving manufacturer’s vehicle and equipment drawings, and procedures in accordance with established TTC requirements.
- Conducting on-site visits to inspect and approve workmanship and correctness of vehicles and/or equipment (sometimes requiring out of town/province/country travel and/or use of personal vehicle).
- Providing instruction and advice to unionized TTC personnel and to TTC contracted vehicle manufacturing inspectors.
- Witnessing and approving routine in-plant testing of equipment and vehicles (sometimes requiring out of town/province/country travel and/or use of personal vehicle).
- Participating in planning, organizing, scheduling and coordinating of acceptance testing of vehicles leading to final acceptance.
- Responsible for treating passengers and /or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within there are of responsibilities) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefits from the TTC as a service-provider and an employee.

**Education and Experience**:

- Completion of a post-secondary diploma in mechanical engineering technology combined with several years of related experience including relevant work in an automotive manufacturing environment or heavy automotive repair environment and additional relevant work in an engineering environment would also be acceptable.
- O.A.C.E.T.T. certification as an Engineering Technologist and/or a Truck & Coach Technician Certificate would also be preferred.
- Knowledge of automotive and heavy vehicle design, and related Computer Assisted Drafting skills, would be a valuable asset.
