As the Head Instructor of Cake Decorating & Baking Camp you will be responsible for providing the lead instruction in the program as well as overseeing the work of other instructors in order to ensure a safe, productive and enjoyable experience for all campers. Applicants for this position should have completed min. 2nd year university/college and have thorough knowledge & previous experience in decorating and baking and/or a related discipline.

**Specific Accountabilities**:

- Develop, plan and supervise respective discipline of the summer camp program
- Deliver engaging full day programs for the Cake Decorating & Baking Campers
- Provide campers with lesson in cooking and baking techniques, proper food handling, food preparation and presentation, kitchen safety, table setting, and how to decorate a cookie, cupcake, brownie
- Instruct and lead specialized activities with campers and instructors
- Create schedules and lesson plans for activities that allow for the highest quality experience and ensures flexibility to coordinate with other programs
- Follow and ensure camp procedures and policies are adhered to at all times to include Appleby’s Mutual Respect Policy
- Manage and problem solve issues with campers, staff and volunteers
- Ensure all staff within respective discipline receives the proper training related to health and safety
- Ensure the safety and supervision of all campers, staff and visitors

**Knowledge and Skills**:

- Provide top-level instruction abilities while promoting self-confidence and awareness in a fun and inspiring setting
- Experienced and skilled in variety of cooking and baking techniques, proper food handling, food preparation and presentation, kitchen safety
- Knowledgeable in all facets of adapting recipes for allergies, nutrition, and food sensitivities
- Proven decorating skills for treats with buttercream and fondant
- Proven baking skills in pastries, breads, cookies, and cakes
- Applicants for this position should have completed min. 2nd year university/college and have thorough knowledge & previous experience instructing
- Proven teaching & instructing skills ensuring appropriate balance of “fun”damentals of kitchen safety, and fun creative expression through baking
- Related work experience in teaching in similar camp setting or recreation programs an asset
- Demonstrate strong organizational capabilities and be able to host events, art showcases and activities in front of large groups.
- Experience building relationships with staff, campers, and parents/guardians
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Team oriented, motivational, and creative
- Energetic and enthusiastic
- Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills

**Workplace Requirements**:

- As a condition of employment, if over 18 yrs. a criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening is required and government-issued proof of full immunization against COVID-19 is required
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR - C (certified on, or after Sept. 2021) is required
