**Educational Assistant Job**

The role of the Educational Assistant is to support classroom teachers as they provide all students with the support needed to reach their potential in an inclusive educational environment. EA’s are under the supervision of the Principal, and Resource/Classroom Teachers.

**General Roles and Duties**
1. Follow the schedule of your assignment as provided by the Deputy Assistant Superintendent, Principal and

Resource Teacher. This assignment will be determined in collaboration with other school team members such as
Clinicians and EAL Teachers.

2. Consult and collaborate with the Classroom Teacher daily concerning the student’s programming needs.
3. Work with individual or small groups of students.
4. Implement the educational strategies recommended by the Educational Support Team.
5. Collect record data as outlined by the Classroom Teacher and/or Clinician, to be used in assessing student programming and performance.
6. Attendance at team meeting **when ** requested.
7. Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality.
8. Develop meaningful relationships with students based on respect.

The specific duties of Educational Assistant will vary for each position. Duties are dependent on the programming plan developed by the Classroom Teacher, Resource Teacher and the students’ educational team. Following are some duties
Educational Assistants may be assigned:
**Instructional Support Provided to Students under the direction of a Teacher**:

- Listen to and read to students
- Supervise students in their work areas
- Assist the student with projects or specific assignments (scribe, read texts and instructions orally)
- Follow through on special interests as outlined in the students’ plan
- including life skills and work experience opportunities - in or out of the school setting.

**Behavior-Management Supports**:

- Reinforce appropriate behavior using strategies outlined in students’ plan
- Supervise time-out when initiated by Principal/Teachers
- Provide positive reinforcement to build students’ self-esteem and independence
- Provide opportunities for students to experience success
- Supervise recess and/or lunch as assigned

**Student Care**:

- Assist students to dress (i.e. coming inside/going outside - after using the toilet etc.)
- Assist students with personal hygiene (i.e. feeding, toileting, brushing hair, washing face/body)
- Move and lift students from place to place following proper training procedure
- Assist students in the use of equipment (i.e. computer, personal communication devices, wheelchairs, walkers, braces) as trained
- Perform medical procedures as trained including administering medication
- Follow safety recommendations as outlined by the Educational Support Team

**Classroom Organization under the direction of the Classroom Teacher in collaboration with the Educational**
**Support Team**:

- Correct assignments
- Observe and record academic and/or social behaviors
- Make instructional games, activities etc.
- Prepare displays
- Arrange/assemble materials and equipment
- Make bulletin board displays
- Supervise during temporary absences of teachers or while teacher works with an individual or small group of students
- Supervise playgrounds, halls, gym, field trips as assigned

**Additional duties which may be assigned by the Principal, Classroom/Resource Teachers and other members of the students’ Educational Support Team**:

- School Crossing Guard duties
- Summer school instructor’s assistant (dependent on EA’s acceptance)
- Bus supervision
- Lunch supervision
- Other duties as identified by the Deputy Assistant Superintendent of Student Services

*If Educational Assistants in the course of their duties have reason to suspect that a child has suffered or is suffering from abuse, they are required by law to report this information to the appropriate authorities. Classroom Teacher/Principal and/or School Counselor should also be informed.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3 months
Part-time hours: 30 per week

**Salary**: $13.78-$16.78 per hour
