**Benefits & Disability Claims Manager**

The Benefits & Disability Claims Manager is responsible to lead the Benefits Administration and Disability Management plans that support Karis Disability Services employees. They are responsible to develop and maintain programs in accordance with all policies and legislation. The Benefits & Disability Claims Manager serves as the primary liaison and ensures accurate information between benefit providers, employees, supervisors, third party claims adjudicator, and the Human Resources Department. They are responsible to lead benefit programs including retirement plans, group benefits (health & dental), Healthcare Spending Accounts and Employee Assistance Programs as well as Disability Management including medical leaves, short/long term disability, injury at work, medical accommodations and return to work plans. They support the Human Resources Management team with accurate information and documentation related to complex accommodation cases and legal matters.

**Responsibilities**:

- Meet with benefit providers and benefit broker annually to review utilization reports and discuss ongoing engagement strategies and plan improvement.
- Quarterly analysis of Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Registered Pension Plan (RPP), Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) and Group Benefits, recommending plan improvements.
- Review, analyze and summarize monthly benefit eligibility data and employee enrollment in mandator plans (long term disability, RPP) and voluntary programs (RRSP and EAP).
- Designing and promoting campaigns to increase employee engagement in voluntary programs, including presentations to leaders and employees across Karis Disability Services.
- Provide support to Benefit Coordinator to resolve complex situations that vary from process or policy or are a result of an employee complaint or concern.
- Collaborate with benefit vendor or benefit broker to solve issues related to benefit packages.
- Work collaboratively with the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) team, payroll team and Director of Recruitment & Retention to ensure information in the HRIS system relating to benefits is accurate.
- Work with third-party adjudicators to identify and implement continuous improvements to the Medical Leave of Absence and disability related workplace accommodation processes; including the review and coordination of contract wording changes, program updates, and employee training recommendations.
- Analyze weekly case summary provided by the adjudicator and follow-up on complex cases.
- Advise and make recommendations for policy revisions, process improvements, and/or claim management issues.
- Serve as a liaison to review and resolve issues and concerns between Karis Disability Services, employees, supervisors and the claim adjudicator.
- Provide supervisors with tools, direction, training materials, and resources to successfully navigate disability related workplace accommodation and Injury at Work (IAW) process.
- Provide case management for short-term and long-term disability claims.
- Conduct research to remain currently on legislation related to Benefit Administration and Disability Management including attendance at workshops, seminars, and reading articles.
- Provide supervision and support to direct reports and cultivate a positive work environment.
- Promote employee professional development to direct reports through one-on-one support meetings, coaching sessions, feedback, recognition, and the completion of annual performance and development reviews.

**Requirements**:

- 5 years of previous work experience in Human Resources, 1 year of supervisory experience
- University Degree in Human Resource Management
- Professional Designation: Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) required, CHRL is considered an asset
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Interpersonal Relations & Respect
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (Employment Standards Act, Human Rights, Workers Compensation)
