BCIT’s School of Health Sciences **Medical Laboratory Science Department** is seeking a **regular full-time (1.0 **FTE**) Technical Staff II **to provide technical services related to the preparation of student laboratories.**Duties & Responsibilities**

**DUTIES** **AND**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Maintain Glassware Supplies for Classrooms/Labs**:

- Wash glassware thoroughly and ensure cleanliness
- Monitor inventory levels and replenish supplies as needed

**Coordinate Program Supplies and Equipment Servicing**:

- Procure and track program supplies efficiently
- Plan and oversee service events and manage the service contract budget effectively
- Handle packing and shipping of equipment to on-campus and off-campus locations
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders regarding purchasing, maintenance and service contract budget
- Prepare and maintain invoices for review and submission to Accounts Payable
- Arrange supply cupboards in a user-friendly manner for easy access

**Prepare, Maintain, and Clean Routine Laboratory Equipment**:

- Ensure routine equipment used in the laboratory is properly prepared, maintained and cleaned
- Transport equipment to labs/classrooms as required and ensure timely return

**Handle Bio-hazardous Material and Chemical Waste Disposal**:

- Safely manage bio-hazardous materials and arrange for proper disposal of chemical waste

**Coordinate Repairs and Maintenance**:

- Collaborate with facilities management for building maintenance requests and repairs

**Attend Department Meetings**:

- Participate in department meetings to discuss laboratory-related matters and provide input

**Assist in Instructional Preparation**:

- Perform duties to assist in the preparation for instructional processes as directed by the program
- Set up and aliquot standard solutions as required for various lab procedures
- Assist in the preparation of audio-visual materials and equipment
- Provide guidance to students in the use of laboratory equipment

**Other Related Duties as Directed**:

- Maintain the program’s lab coat/gown inventory and coordinate laundry services
- Create and manage electronic records for chemical and reagent inventory
- Dispose of chemicals per regulatory procedures
- Support program projects, initiatives, and other assigned duties

**Qualifications**

**Required Qualifications**:

- Two (2) years’ experience as a Laboratory Assistant, industrial, clinical, field, or related experience, plus one additional year of appropriate post-secondary education;
- Diploma of Technology or equivalent.
- Communicates and Collaborates effectively - Excellent communication skills; Ability to collaborate respectfully and effectively with colleagues and students in a laboratory environment; Utilizes communication technology appropriately and effectively for work-related tasks
- Takes Initiative and Works Independently - Self-motivated with a proactive approach to independently managing tasks and responsibilities; Able to adapt to varying situations and demands
- Practices Effective Time Management - Organizes daily, weekly and monthly workflows; Adaptable to changes in workflow and prioritizes activities to meet deadlines effectively
- Has Strong Problem-Solving Skills - Exhibits strong problem-solving abilities and troubleshoots issues effectively as they arise
- Shows a Desire and Willingness to Learn - Demonstrates a strong desire and willingness to learn, adapt, and be flexible in tasks and responsibilities

**Salary Range**
- Salary Range: $56,757 - $70,315 per annum.**Additional Salary Information**
- Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.Position Details
