**Organizational Status**

The Phoenix Society is a multi-service agency located in Surrey, BC dedicated to providing accessible services and opportunities to people who face barriers related to addiction, mental health, housing, education, criminal justice involvement and/or employment.

**Job Summary**

Working under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Building Maintenance Worker is responsible for the general maintenance of the interior and exterior of Phoenix Society’s Surrey based facilities. They perform maintenance and repairs related to buildings, grounds and equipment.

**Work Performed**

**Facilities Maintenance**
- Promotes and maintains a welcoming environment; welcoming residents, guests and staff to our facilities and maintaining a positive demeanor when interacting with others
- Ensures that our facilities are maintained to guarantee the satisfaction of our residents, staff, funders, and all stakeholders
- Responds to and completes maintenance tasks, as requested by their Manager
- Detects, identifies and repairs building deficiencies, in coordination with Manager
- Completes safety checks and conducts routine maintenance on systems and equipment, including maintaining records of this work
- Assists in the adherence of a preventative maintenance plan
- Performs general maintenance task for the buildings, such as painting, power washing, major clean ups, event setup/take down
- Liaising with other contractors and repair personnel as directed by management
- Making and/or installing new furniture and equipment
- Other duties that may be assigned

**Working Conditions**
- Ability to do work inside and outdoors physical activity, including heavy lifting, climbing ladders and stairs, and standing for extended periods of time
- Commitment to collaboration and integration with Society’s administration and staff
- The ability to function independently while managing multiple tasks and the ability to adapt to change is an ongoing expectation of this position
- Flexibility to work during evenings and weekends, and be on call, as needed

**Qualifications**
- Academic: Successful completion Grade 12 education, plus related vocational training such as a building maintenance course.
- 3+ years working knowledge and professional experience in a wide variety of maintenance and light construction tasks including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and finishing work.
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required
- Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required
- Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
- First aid certification with CPR is required
- Valid class 5 driver’s license is required accompanied by suitable drivers abstract

- Computer: proficient in MS Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook
