Established by the National Indian Brotherhood in 1982 as a non-profit research organization, the T.A.R.R. Centre specializes in research related to Treaty Rights, Treaty Land Entitlement, Claims Policy Reform, First Nation History and
Land Claims. The T.A.R.R Centre undertakes claims research and development on behalf of its member First Nations and researches and develops specific claims such as reserve land surrenders, reserve land alienation, the administration of

The T.A.R.R. Centre of Manitoba is currently seeking a Researcher for our Winnipeg Research office (hybrid work arrangement available).

**SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Leads research projects, compiles reports, and writes file summaries.
2. Conducts records research including review of relevant files and documents (paper and online).
3. Extracts information from documents and enters into a database.
4. Creates claim standards in conjunction with legal counsel.
5. Liaises with clients on behalf of T.A.R.R. relating to specific claim research matters.
6. Attends meetings with the Executive Director as related to specific research initiatives.
7. Provides analysis on new and/or revisions to current legislation and policies that relate to the promotion, enhancement and implementation of treaty rights and related initiatives.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Bachelor of Arts in History, Indigenous Studies or related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience conducting research and report writing.
- Experience using multiple forms of historical resource databases.
- Experience requesting historical information from archival sources such as Library and Archives Canada,

Manitoba Archives, etc.
- Experience conducting document management activities with paper and electronic documents.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and engagement with Indigenous communities.
- Lived experience and/or knowledge of indigenous ways of knowing, thinking, and being.
- Capable of working independently and with mínimal supervision.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task while working on multiple projects.
- Proficiency in MS Office Professional and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Ability to work effectively in a team atmosphere.

**DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Ability to communicate in an Indigenous language
- Experience conducting Indigenous history research, including records research and online research.
