The Part-time Forestry By-Law Officer is responsible for assisting the Forestry By-law Enforcement Officer in conducting patrols and monitoring the Simcoe County Forest, enforcing the County Forest Recreation By-law and other County By-laws as required in accordance with the policies of the County and applicable legislation.

12 hours per week, March - November yearly.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)**:
1. Assist the Forestry By-law Enforcement Officer in conducting patrols and monitoring public use of the Simcoe County Forest.

2. Assist the Forestry By-law Enforcement Officer in the investigation of unauthorized activities and occurrences within the County Forest as prescribed by the County Forest Recreation Policy.

3. Issue Part I tickets in accordance with applicable legislation and associated County By-laws.

4. Investigate and document acts of non-compliance by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses or complainants and recording statements of fact.

5. Flexibility of hours will be required. Patrols are generally required on evenings and weekends.

6. Perform other Forestry and by-law enforcement duties as required and assigned.

7. Maintain detailed and accurate records of all activities.

8. Comply with provincial and county occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.

9. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

**EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION**:

- College diploma or University degree in Law and Security, or equivalent education and related operational experience.
- Membership in good standing with the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association of Ontario would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of County By-laws, Policies and related legislation.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to carry out field duties with minimum supervision.
- Good organizational and record keeping skills and an ability to learn and operate in a fast paced, multi-functional environment.
- Ability to act independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of the Simcoe County Forests would be considered an asset.
- Valid G class driver’s license.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Six (6) months of related or similar experience would be considered an asset.

**EFFORT**:

- Mental and visual effort required when driving including off-road vehicles.
- Physical effort required when out in the field, required to walk through forestry areas, ground may be uneven.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- Exposure to most weather conditions when out in the field.
- Exposure to dust, dirt, insects.

COMPENSATION

$28.98 - $35.26 per hour
12 hours per week, on average. March - November Annually.
