We have an exciting opportunity starting in June 2023, for a temporary (until January 2025) part time (0.6) Professional Practice Leader and Clinical (0.4) Speech Language Pathology (SLP), to work with our Collaborative Practice Team and Professional Practice department. The Professional Practice Leader (PPL) for SLP provides leadership to support and enable SLPs across the organization to embrace the patient-centered care philosophy into practice and meet the mission, vision and values of Grand River Hospital. This position has a dual reporting accountability to the Director of Professional Practice for their role as Professional Practice Leader and to the Collaborative Practice Manager for the clinical care role. You bring a strong foundation in clinical practice and leadership with acute care experience and a strong demonstrated commitment to Person and Family Centered Care and Interprofessional Collaboration. This unique position will require your time to be split 50/50 between both campuses (Freeport and K-W) and will have an additional clinical component that will be determined in negotiation with the successful incumbent to a maximum of 0.6 FTE.

**Responsibilities**:
The Clinical Speech Language Pathologist as an member of the multi-disciplinary Collaborative Practice Team will:

- Provide assessment, treatment, and education for adult patients, family, and staff regarding the management of communication and swallowing disorders.
- Participate in program planning/development; professional and hospital initiatives supporting quality management and research
- Supervise Communication Disorders Assistants
- Mentor colleagues and students - Assist with coverage across all clinical areas as required. The Professional Practice Leader will act as a resource and fulfill expectations in the areas of:

- Resource to clinical programs for matters involving discipline specific professional practice.
- Works collaboratively with clinical programs and other discipline leaders to facilitate the integration of professional standards and promote professional practice.
- Functions as a mentor and support for new and current staff to ensure that specialized and high quality clinical expertise is available for patient care, inclusive of orientation
- Provide a leadership role both within the Collaborative Practice Team and as an advocate for the Collaborative Practice Team goals and objectives.
- Coaching in clinical related matters, monitoring and making recommendations regarding clinical practice and supporting the profession’s growth and development.
- Provide support to the Collaborative Practice Manager for scheduling to ensure that appropriate staffing and clinical support is provided on the patient care units.
- Support and coordination of student placements
- Monitoring annual compliance activities and registration requirements.

**Qualifications**:

- Current registration in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario.
- Membership in Ontario Speech-Language Pathology Association preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience (full time equivalent).
- Previous strong leadership experience required - Demonstrated critical thinking skills and effective problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement processes adult learning principles and change management
- Experience in the development of policies, procedures and knowledge transfer is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to establish positive partnerships
- Recent experience utilizing leadership skills such acting as a mentor /preceptors others, teaching at the Univ
