We are seeking an experienced Piplelayer/Gradesman. **As a Pipelayer/Grademen you would**:

- Align and position pipes to prepare them for installation
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints
- Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
- Cut pipes to required lengths.
- Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
- Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools.
- Install and repair sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.
- Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints, and coordinating layouts with supervisors and municipal requirements
- Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indicators.
- Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
- Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels.
- Previous experience as an operator is a benefit
- Achieve the correct grade by directing operators of equipment to adjust grade by moving earth gravel and other material
- Measures distances from reference points to locate boundaries of construction site
- Verifies curvature of graded surface using a hand level
- Responsible for equipment checks and informing mechanics and supervisors of mechanical problems with the equipment
- Be able to identify hazards on site
- Must be willing and able to learn general construction practices involving road construction
- Have an understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance and ability to work in and implement safe work practices and contribute to a safe work environment
- A valid BC Driver’s License
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the civil construction industry, within a pipe crew
- Ability to read and understand civil drawings with a proficiency to make calculations and adjustments in grades
- Familiarity with requirements for Municipal sewer, water, hydro and telephone installations
