As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success. The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,050 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.” In 2022-2023, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,931 students; and approximately 369 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations. Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

**Work Schedule**:7 hrs/day; 12 month position**

**Child and Youth Care Practitioner**
The CYCP will provide the following services in each of the schools:
- Working with students directly in education settings, identifying services for students who have difficulty coping in school/education settings with self-regulation, social skills and developing positive relationships
- Facilitate professional learning opportunities and promote the use of evidence based curriculum resources to support health promotion in the area of mental wellness and pro-social behavior.
- Support schools in the development of welcoming, supportive and inclusive school and classroom environments through proactive, preventative, positive behavior supports, which recognize and value cultural and linguistic diversity.
- Support the promotion of curriculum that develops resiliency in students
- Explicitly teach emotion words to students P-8 using progrmas such as Path’s and the healthy living curriculum
- Promote, model and coach social communication, social skills and problem solving in small group and large group situations
- Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, specialists, parents and others to support the implementation of appropriate interventions and programming for assigned students.
- Participate in team meeting for individual students and contribute to success plan
- Compliment the roles of the existing SchoolsPlus team and provide services of identified gaps based on individual and school based needs
Essential Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Completion of a post-secondary diploma or certificate such as **Nova Scotia Community College: Child & Youth Care Practitioner Program **diploma.
- Experience working in an educational setting
- Membership in the NS Child and Youth Care Workers’ Association
- First Aid and CPR
- Nonviolent crisis intervention
- First aid Mental Health for adults interacting with young (National training)
