The Grounds & Facilites Assitant Supervisor is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds at cemetery and funeral locations where applicable.

An integral part of our ability to attract and keep customers lies in the appearance and upkeep of the cemeteries and parks. A strong ability to lead people is very important. The Assistant Superintendent will continuously help the Superintendent to maintain the cemetery grounds and parks in excellent condition in an efficient and cost effective manner. Preparation for completion of responsibilities requires timeliness, accuracy and quality performance.

**Specific Responsibilities**
- Demonstrates a Commitment to Services Excellence, Trustworthiness and Integrity.
- Works closely with Superintendent and the charge hands to organize and supervise the work of the grounds staff on a daily basis, which includes laying out grave sites and preparing them for burials, setting memorials, performing lawn maintenance such as mowing, trimming, planting and snow removal, collecting debris from the grounds.
- Identifies areas of improvement to work toward the overall vision and level of excellence for the cemetery and surrounding facilities.
- Recruits, manages performance, provides conflict resolution and disciplines staff when necessary.
- Facilitates ongoing training with the crew and individual members.
- Assures that the grounds crews’ uniforms, personal appearance, actions and demeanor present an appropriate image to client families.
- Experienced in the different roles of grounds keeping/facilities maintenance function.
- Follows all policies and procedures with strict attention to our interment verification process.
- Oversees the maintenance of existing memorials.
- Assures that sites are prepared for services as expected by client families and to company standards.
- Assures that all memorials comply with the client family wishes and are to cemetery regulation.
- In consultation with Market Manager/General Manager, Sales Manager, Office Manager and other staff, schedules and delegates work requests to meet client family wishes.
- Upkeeps the works yard building and surrounding area.
- Helps maintains proper inventories of equipment, supplies and merchandise.
- Upholds a safe working environment by training the staff to observe safety rules and ensure compliance with WCB standards and purchases safety equipment and supplies as required. Ensures staff are wearing the required PPE.
- Assures that all equipment is cleaned inspected and properly maintained on a daily basis

**Experience**
- At least five (5) years grounds keeping in an environment concerning the general public with increasing skill development and responsibilities and demonstrate environmental and safety regulation knowledge
- Experience with vendor management a plus
- Professional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic and ethical business practices
- Proficient MS Office Outlook skills
- Proficient database skills to administer human resources transactions and timecard approvals

**MINIMUM Requirements**

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipments, including, but not limited to a shovel, pick, rake, sledge hammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer and leaf blower
- Ability to operate larger mechanical equipment, including dump trucks, riding mowers, tractors and brush hogs (under supervision is able to operate backhoe).
- Ability to accurately use measuring devices (i.e. tape measure, yard stick, etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively with fellow associates, contractor personnel and client families
