**Position Summary**

Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) is presently recruiting for a full-time Student Guidance Navigator. Reporting to the Academic Lead, the Student Guidance Navigator will be responsible for the intake of students from the IFNA Communities that are interested in attending high school and will assist the students to navigate and register for further community living, online learning, trade school, college or university. This position will serve as the facilitator for the students’ academic and career goals and assist them in developing their skills and abilities for their future. The goal is to enable the students to succeed academically and socially both during school and after they have graduated.

**Responsibilities**:

- Manage and oversee the incoming high school student admissions process.
- Develop and implement a process to evaluate and assess the incoming students needs.
- Develop and implement an all-encompassing educational and counseling plan for teaching and mentoring.
- Conduct group or individual counseling sessions to assist students with problems or concerns.
- Assess students’ attributes and prepare an individual plan system to ensure achievement of all secondary and post secondary goals.
- Develop and build strong relationships with post secondary Indigenous student services.
- Assist students with career planning and personal development, and co-ordinate the provision of counselling services to student.
- Guide students towards appropriate career choices or connecting students to information about university information sessions, job requirements, or scholarship availability.
- Guide and assist students with post secondary enrolment.
- Evaluate the progress of students and reinforce the sense of accomplishment.
- Provide ongoing support to students throughout their secondary and post secondary endeavours.
- Provide students with a wide range of educational and occupational information.
- Provide information on job search strategies, including résumé and cover letter writing, as well as interview preparation and networking best practices.
- Identify behavioural problems or at-risk students and act appropriately.
- Cooperate with parents and teachers as well as other parties.
- Complete assessments and tests, analyse results and provide feedback.
- Organize, administer, and update student records.
- Participate in student service committees and initiatives.
- Prepare and present reviews on students’ progress.

**Position Requirements**:

- 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role, focused on student success and navigation of the Secondary and Post Secondary school systems.
- Bachelor of Education degree, or equivalent education and experience accepted.
- Proven experience as a Guidance Counselor, Teacher, working in a high school environment is an asset.
- Experience coordinating or managing education services to First Nations communities is required.
- Ability to collaborate and coordinate services as member of a senior management team.
- Project, program, and budget management experience and ability is an asset.
- Demonstrate a passion for the IFNA Communities.
- Friendly, courteous, considerate, responsive, motivated, trusting, and professional.
- Ability to meet deadlines, be a team player, and truly believe in positive public relations and helping students entering high school.
- Knowledge of education practices in the First Nations communities of IFNA.
- Traditional cultural competencies in historical knowledge and intercultural competence.
- Preferred Aboriginal language - traditional practices would be considered an asset.
