**POSITION STATUS: Temporary - 14 Month Maternity Replacement with Possibility of Extension (35 hrs./week)**

**COMPENSATION: $42,630 per year**

**JOB SUMMARY**

Employment Counsellors help clients identify goals, access appropriate programming, and work with them to improve or develop self-sustainability. They assist clients with employment preparation using cognitive, motivational-based approaches, help with job searches and resume development, and assist in obtaining information about community services, education, and training. Employment Counsellors administer assessments to determine the client's level of motivation and enhance their readiness for employment, moving them closer to achieving their goal. Employment Counsellors build rapport with clients using clear communication while setting realistic expectations and providing encouragement and support. Employment Counsellors are responsible for achieving program deliverables as determined in consultation with the Manager of Employment Programs.

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**DIRECT CLIENT SERVICE**

Assist clients with identifying short/long-term goals based on strengths, barriers, interests/aptitudes, work experience/education, etc.Assist clients in identifying their "reasons for change" and obstacles or barriers to work that may keep them from participating in the labour market
- Work with clients to develop job search tools such as resumes, cover letters, job leads, etc.
- Ability to learn sector specific-tools and create documents based on job seeker needs
- Assist clients with recognizing the transferability of skills into other employment sectors
- Make clients referrals for additional in-house programming/services and/or with external organizations, agencies, and institutions
- Complete and maintain files, adhering to organizational standards (return-to-work plans, case notes, etc.)
- Complete follow-up calls monthly, compile client statistics and provide a monthly report to management
- Maintain up-to-date labour market information with the ability to identify market gaps
- Function as a workshop facilitator, as required
- Comply with the SCCC's vision, values, policies, and procedures
- Willing to work flexible hours, as required

**ADMINISTRATION**
- Contribute to overall program planning and implementation
- Keep client management and case notes up-to-date
- Record and enter data in appropriate database systems, participate in training to learn new systems, and stay up-to-date on system requirements
- Participate in program-related training opportunities
- Comply with SCCC’s vision, values, policies, and procedures

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**EDUCATION**

Post-secondary Degree, Diploma, or Certificate of Qualification in a related discipline

**KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE**
- Effective communication skills, with an emphasis on reflective listening and responses
- In-depth understanding of job search practices, tools, and trends
- Experienced and skilled in conflict resolution, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Awareness of and respect for cultural diversity
- Awareness of and sensitivity to persons with disabilities and mental health disorders
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 Workspace and Adobe Acrobat (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PDF, etc.); ability to learn other programs as needed
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Knowledge and/or training in Motivational Interviewing Skills is an asset

**OTHER**
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and clean driving record are required
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
