Foreman - Asphalt

The Foreman provides leadership by coordinating, supervising and ensuring the schedules, productivity and safety of the work crew and the public. As a key participant in the relationship with the client, consultants and the company, the Foreman acts as a management liaison and a client interface.
**Location**:Ottawa, ON
**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- The foreman must promote a safe work culture, is accountable for the safety of the crew as well as the general public
- Knowing, understanding, communicating and ensuring compliance with the safety regulations (Health and Safety Act) and safety policies and procedures outlined in the company policy
- Completing incident and other safety reports in a timely manner
- Leads the crew and is accountable for how the crew completes assigned work
- Communicating and assigning individual tasks to a member or members of his crew
- Setting work standards, maintaining a strong work ethic and positive attitude to ensure crew morale and productivity
- Train and mentor crew members on construction best practices and procedures
- Interact with inspectors and clients
- Following the project plans and schedules and ensuring that the crew’s daily and weekly activities meet production goals
- Understanding the work at hand, organize the workforce and equipment
- Discussing and planning with the manager/superintendent the proposed work
- Completing administrative tasks as required
- Time entry
- Submitting expense reports
- Daily safety documents
- Ensuring that the completed work meets the specifications
- Ensuring proper techniques are utilized to achieve the highest possible workmanship and quality of work
- Inspecting the completed work and initiating timely resolutions if required
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
- 3+ years of experience being a Lead Hand or Tail Ender
- 5+ years of experience being the Foreman of a paving crew
- Actively engaged in road construction for 10+ years
- Knowledge of the Eastern Ontario and Ottawa geographical area
**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
- Work on a construction site
- Long hours required, night and weekend work required
- Exposure to all elements - summer heat, rain etc.
- Required to stand and walk for continuous periods of time
