The Shelter Supervisor works and supervises shelter staff during day-time hours, and supports the work of the Community Ministries Director/Shelter Manager in supporting guest needs and providing a holistic continuum of care.

**Hours**:

- Full Time
- 40 hours per week

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assist Corps Officer and Community Ministries Director/Shelter Manager with accreditation, program reviews, and other external/internal reviews to ensure compliance with Shelter standards and report any issues which arise.
- Adhere to and enforce all legislation, policies and procedures affecting the workplace.
- Provide Community Ministries Director/Shelter Manager with reports as required.
- Assist with the review of policy, procedures, and resident guidelines on a regular basis to ensure that they are relevant and compliant.
- Participate in management and staff meetings.
- Maintain open, effective and timely communication with Shelter Manager.
- Ensure all tasks and duties related to Shelter support are completed.
- Respond and bring forward to Community Ministries Director/Shelter Manager any frontline concerns.
- Work to resolve any issues on shift and refer unresolved matters to the Community Ministries Director/Shelter Manager.
- Supervise frontline workers and housekeepers as required.
- Address performance issues in a timely manner, assess the proper course of action and document all items relating to the issue; conduct annual PEACs (performance evaluation and coaching).
- Responsible for enforcing Shelter policies and making decisions regarding inappropriate guest behaviour, including bans.
- Investigate and resolve resident or staff complaints or refer to Community Ministries Director/Shelter Manager as required.
- Shelter Supervisor has input into scheduling and is responsible for finding replacements when required for all shifts.
- Ensure that all HIFIS and other statistical data is completed as required.
- Ensures logs and p-notes are completed correctly.
- Oversees intakes and discharges during their shift.
- Helps with general Shelter support tasks including:

- Serving snacks to clients
- Cleaning rooms and offices
- Assisting with clients
- Property Checks
- Room Checks

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- Experience in front line social services work
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Will have completed at least 1 year of community College in related field
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Criminal record and vulnerable sector check
- CPR/First Aid Certificate
- Naloxone Training
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
- Strong computer skills

**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:

- Previous supervisory experience

**Skills and Capabilities**:

- Strong organizational skills/team player
- Able to work effectively and efficiently with limited supervision
- Good computer skills
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications and related to position responsibilities.
