Nellie’s is currently seeking one (1) Children’s Program Worker who will be responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing structured children’s programs for infants, children and youth ages 0-17 in the shelter. This is a 35 hours per week, full-time permanent position.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
**Program Delivery**
- Works as part of a team to develop, implement and facilitate infant/children and youth programs at the shelter.
- Organize age appropriate developmental activities for infants, children and youth.
- Ensures that all health and safety guidelines and shelter and IPAC policies are followed.
- Support implementation of children’s safety audit.
- Provide input into creation of policies for children’s programming.
- Ensure effective evaluation of the children’s program using the Logic Model.
- Maintain the training binder for the children’s program, including curriculum, policies and forms.
- Communicates with parents, shelter and community support staff.
- Advises shelter and community support staff of suspected abuse immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- In conjunction with the Director of Development, provide detailed donor stewardship reports on the outcomes of the various programs to funders.

**Direct Support and Service**
- Plans and implements programs for mothers and children
- Create and implement daily and weekly activities for children and youth that are age appropriate
- Supervises children and youth during daily scheduled indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings and special events
- Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions and development
- Responsible for maintaining control of and accounting for the whereabouts and safety of the children and youth in care
- Uses designated evaluation materials to ensure assigned area is in compliance with Army baseline standards and metrics
- Prepares, arranges and maintains indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedule
- Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies
- Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse, or neglect and reports as directed

**Administration**
- Responsible for completing all required documentation, statistics and reports.
- Maintains children’s files and completes all shelter documentation.
- Report writing as required.

**Other Duties**
- Works co-operatively as a member of the shelter team.
- Attends regular team meetings, staff training sessions and planning meetings.
- Supervises volunteers and students.

**Qualifications and Experience**
- Early childhood education an asset
- Extensive experience/education working with infants/children and youth from families living with violence and homelessness
- Experience developing children’s program curriculums
- Able to work shifts including evenings and weekends
- Excellent counseling and/or facilitating skills
- Excellent computer and database management skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong understanding of child & family services
- Comprehensive knowledge of how Children’s Aid Society’s affect children and youth

**Hours**: **18 Hours per week, may vary as needed (this may include evenings and weekends)**

**Salary: $18.89 per hour**
