**Hiring: Part Time Contract Cooking Instructor**

**Post Majority Support Services (Kîwîtin Acâhkos - Yidah)**

Post majority support services is a new program that will provide individualized support to First Nations young people aged 18 - 26 as they prepare for independence. The program is designed for youth exiting or leaving care due to having reached the age when mandated or legislated services end, and who are considered ordinarily resident on-reserve.

The Post Majority Support Services Program is looking for a part-time contract Cooking Instructor. The Cooking Instructor will plan meals and provide instruction for food preparation, cooking including basic skills, food safety handling and sanitation, menu planning and clean up for Indigenous young adults who are part of the Post Majority Support Services Program. The Cooking Instructor will provide instruction to clients 3 times a week. This will also include upkeep of kitchen facilities, maintaining adequate food inventories, and ensuring proper quantities of food are ordered on a weekly basis. This position will report to the Program Coordinator and will be based in Edmonton.

**Responsibilities**
- Provide instruction on basic kitchen and cooking skills.
- Keep the kitchen clean, sanitary and safe by following all Alberta health and safety guidelines.
- Ensuring food storage and meal preparation follows food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Check and ensure quality of food ingredients including expiration dates.
- Work with Program Coordinator to monitor and project for food and supplies for the kitchen.
- Prepare weekly menu plans for cooking instruction.
- Able to engage with clients and provide constructive feedback.
- Serve as a role model to young adults.
- Prepare nutritious, healthy and budget-friendly meals while also working with different food allergies, sensitivities and restrictions.
- Able to work with food suppliers for orders, supplies and requests.
- Other duties as requested.

**Qualifications and Education Requirements**
- Experience with teaching or providing instruction on meal planning and preparation.
- Food Safety Handling Certification
- Knowledge and compliance of Alberta’s Food Regulations and Safety.
- Able to work and engage with clients providing instruction and constructive feedback.
- Good communication skills and easy to get along with.
- Patient, understanding and non-judgmental.
- Good personal boundaries.
- Experience working with Elders, Indigenous communities and/or agencies
- High School diploma or equivalent. Diploma from a culinary school would be considered an asset.
