Detailed Overview:
The Supervisor, Respiratory Therapy is responsible for the daily operation of the department, monitors work flow, assigns workload and supervises staff. Assists the Professional Practice Chief, Respiratory Therapy with the implementation of clinical goals and objectives, and performs patient care intervention as required.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides work direction to professional staff on shift; is responsible for organizing and coordinating work flow and service coverage; resolves day to day operational problems.
- Supervises designated staff by providing guidance, support and technical advice; assists with performance evaluations, determining training needs of staff and providing related training/orientation; participates with the interviewing and selecting process as required.
- Prepares and posts work schedules, processes leave requests for approval by Manager.
- Assists with quality improvement activities in the department and patient care unit by developing standards, conducting audits and monitoring work procedures; prepares related reports as required.
- Performs diagnostic and therapeutic assessments, interventions and follow-up, as related to respiratory therapy program, techniques and practices.
- Completes required reports, records and workload statistics as required.
- Provides timely and relevant information in ward rounds and team conferences promoting an interdisciplinary approach to patient care and program related issues.
- Develops, organizes and conducts in-service education programs as required; participates in Respiratory Therapy student education, fieldwork orientation programs, as required.
- Participates in department, hospital, regional and external meetings in order to share experience and expertise, to facilitate standardization of practice, and to identify and resolve problems of common concern.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:
**Education, Training & Experience**

Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam. Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).

Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Level C and current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

Five (5) year’s recent, related experience including one (1) year’s recent, related experience in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Ability to maintain knowledge of current developments in Respiratory Therapy by reviewing professional literature, consulting with other professionals and actively participating in relevant educational programs.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
