**CNL is seeking a Waste Characterization Services Supervisor in Chalk River, ON.**

The Waste Characterization Services (WCS) Supervisor directs and monitors the work of a team of technologists within the Waste Characterization Facility (WCF) to ensure the safe day-to-day operation of the facilities and equipment, provides technical advice/support to WCS staff, and effectively schedules assignments and work priorities.

***What you will be doing**:

- Ensuring the day-to-day safe operation, use, and maintenance of the Facility in accordance with established policies and procedures. (This is accomplished by assessing work requirements or work control authorization forms and Integrated Work Control packages, assigning work to trained and qualified staff, and overseeing activities by all characterization technologists working within the section)
- The training and development of section personnel.
- The overall operational support of the section.
- Supervising the assigned staff for operations and maintenance activities within the Section.
- Promoting a good safety culture and managing good housekeeping standards.
- Supervising and delegating work to a team of Technologists, Utility Workers, RP staff and others
- Building and leading a highly motivated team by leading by example, coaching, training, and mentoring.
- Acting as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC), managing the emergency response function within the facility.
- Chair Plan-of-Day Meetings with facility staff, ensuring Pre-Job Briefs and Post-Job Reviews for work in the facility are completed daily, and when required performing the duties of Area Owner (work control authorization) for the section
- Authorizing and scheduling all work within the WCS section via the Integrated Work Control Process to meet customer commitments; liaising with customers and suppliers.
- Developing an expertise in section operations; providing operations input in support of continued safe and efficient facility operations.
- Ordering routine operational equipment and materials used to operate the section.
- Identifying day-to-day analytical support needs and liaising with support groups like Analytical Chemistry Branch, Environmental Technologies Branch and commercial service providers.
- Supporting the development and implementation of training.
- Providing input into branch schedules and operational activities through interactions with the section head.
- Lead and/or assist in conducting interviews, goal setting, performing performance appraisals, career development, disciplinary and promotion actions for WCS staff.
- Complete and track routine facility surveillance and equipment tests.
- Conduct safety meetings and implement actions
- Update, upgrade, and review operational procedures.
- Support the development and implementation of training within WMO and other stakeholders.

**What we are looking for**:
***Experience**:

- Demonstrated experience in managing successfully completed projects.
- Must have a working knowledge of the hazards associated with handling radioactive materials.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ALARA principles including hazardous work assessments and radiological work planning within a nuclear operating environment.
- Knowledge of CAN N286 and ISO 9000 standards.
- Relevant experience in waste characterization and gamma spectrometry would be an asset.
- Familiarity with radioactive waste characterization principles and technology would be an asset.
- Familiarity and training in proper hazardous and mixed waste handling and operations would be an asset.

**Abilities & Skills**:

- Must have demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to delegate effectively. Must have the ability to work smoothly and effectively with customers, technical staff, colleagues and management.
- Initiative to resolve problems and expedite resources, work plans or other appropriate actions.
- Ability to work in a team environment, maintain a clear focus on team goals, and establish well maintained relationships with groups and individuals of many diverse areas of expertise is required.
- Strong time management, organizational, work planning, and waste characterization skills.
- Must be capable of planning multiple tasks effectively, including work prioritization and delegating authority to subordinates.
- Ability to perform a variety of duties, changing tasks without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Must be willing to take supervisory, technical and other training courses to increase skills.
- Must have excellent written and oral communications skills; the ability to disseminate information to other team members and clients and strong team problem-solving skills are essential.
- Must be able to communicate respectfully and manage complex relationships with waste generators and program representatives.
- Knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office Suite and standard CNL software is required.
