Our team works together to improve the health and quality of lives of patients whose physical and/or psychological health is significantly impaired by their weight and where long-term weight management will play a central role in the reduction of cardiometabolic risk, the maintenance of mobility and of psychosocial wellbeing.

**Job Summary**:
The Obesity Medicine Assistant (OMA) trainee will work closely with senior staff and the management team to learn the duties and responsibilities of an Obesity Medicine Assistant. Under the direction of the managers, the OMA trainee plays an integral part of supporting patients with treatment programs and lifestyle management (nutrition, activity and mental wellness).

**Responsibilities**:
Patient Care**:

- Prepare detailed consultation letters for OMAs and physicians
- Shadow Senior OMAs and observe patient interview and associated consultation letters
- Interview patients and record a detailed medical and weight history for the physicians
- Write detailed consultation and referral letters to patients’ physician and allied health providers
- Assist physician in managing patient care by collecting anthropometric measurements, generating orders, lab requisitions, prescriptions, and maintaining patient electronic medical records
- Provide one-on-one health coaching and support during physician appointments
- Create patient charts after patient consultations and enter information such as medical history, allergies, and surgical procedures into Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to maintain patient chart with encounter notes, medical updates, survey scores, and relevant documentation

Group Medical Visits:

- Provide physicians and OMAs with a variety of administrative support during group medical visits

Administrative Support:

- Administrative duties and projects in the clinic as required

**Requirements**:

- Technical_
- Completion of a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science degree, specializing in Food, Nutrition and/or Health, Nutritional Science, Biomedical Physiology, Kinesiology or other health-related discipline
- Minimum one year of experience in a clinical or medical facility
- Knowledge of obesity, experience in obesity management and / or food and cooking demonstration skills an asset
- Experience in a nutrition education role with well-developed motivational interviewing skills is an asset
- Strong background in nutrition and physical activity, and ability to answer an array of lifestyle-related questions
- Attributes_

- Has strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
- Able to interact well with others in one-on-one and group settings, and while discussing difficult topics, showing compassion, enthusiasm, empathy, and respect

- Can work well independently and in a team setting

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: $21.00 per hour
