The Abby Community School is looking for fun and motivated individuals to join their instructing team. We are looking for program instructors who will lead Yoga Programs for children & youth. This posting is for a Yoga Instructor.

What is a community school?

It is a designated school facility that is open beyond the traditional school schedule to offer a variety of community learning and recreational opportunities to people of all ages. Community schools are multi-service facilities working in partnership with other community agencies, organizations and individuals to improve the quality of life in the community. Our Community school will be running classes out of schools in Abbotsford and are such as but not limited to, Abbotsford Senior Secondary School, Abbotsford Middle School, Eugene Reimer Middle School, Chief Dan George Middle School, Dormick Park Elementary, Alexander Elementary School, Matsqui Elementary, Ross Elementary, Godson Elementary, Prince Charles Elementary, Clearbrook Elementary, Ten-Broeck Elementary, Terry Fox Elementary, Centennial Park Elementary, Harry Sayers Elementary, Dave Kandal Elementary and Auguston Elementary, and Aberdeen Elementary.

We are currently hiring for a Yoga Instructor.

Applicants will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check. Current First Aid is an asset. Compensation is based on experience and programs that are being led. Compensation for successful applicants is $21.00 per hour for this program.

**Responsibilities**
- Lead group classes. The main duty for yoga instructors is to create a curriculum and lead groups through various levels and types of yoga practice. This can include doing administrative work for the class, getting equipment together and getting to know what stretches and poses are attainable for children aged 6-12.
- Demonstrate practice and technique. As the expert, you’ll use your body to show the correct way to get into poses, the most beneficial breathing patterns, and tips for achieving spiritual wellness.
- Offer adjustments and training recommendations. Not all of your students will be as experienced as you, so you’ll need to gently adjust their bodies, provide them with alternative poses and assist them with other parts of their fitness regimens.
- Mentor and create positive relationships with students, emphasizing that stress can be controlled/diminished by incorporating healthy habits into daily routines, like exercising and stretching.

**Skills**
- Physical fitness and yoga knowledge: demonstrate yoga techniques and offer instruction at beginner and intermediate levels.
- Excellent communication. The most important role of a yoga instructor is explaining how to move the body and what this movement should feel like.
- Motivational skills. Yoga can be a physical and mental struggle, so be ready to push and challenge your students, as well as encourage and congratulate them.
- Patience & a calming presence. Helping children to learn yoga moves and poses in a safe, welcoming, positive, and encouraging manner.

**Education**
- 1+ years of experience teaching yoga
- 1+ years of working with children
- physical education background or Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) Certification
