Assistant Grower

**About us**

Kamps Hydrangea is a local greenhouse operation located in Vineland, Ontario. We are a close-knit team and are looking for a dedicated grower to help us produce the highest quality hydrangeas possible.

The Assistant Grower will work directly with the Grower and the Operations Manager to fulfill these responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Performs crop care activities under the direction of the Grower to grow assigned crop to specifications, on time and within pest tolerances

Applies pesticides and growth regulators using manual hand sprayer and automatic spraying equipment

Mixes nutrients and periodically tests water quality as required

Spreads/broadcasts biologicals on the crops under the direction of the Grower

Troubleshoots issues and performs minor maintenance activities on spray equipment as required

Collaborates with team to resolve growing issues and takes required action to correct them

Operates greenhouse automation machines safely and effectively, troubleshooting issues as required

Sorts and grades plants based on required specifications

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum 3 year’s greenhouse experience or horticulture diploma/degree and 1 year greenhouse experience;
- Hydrangea growing experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of greenhouse environmental control systems an asset;
- Current Grower Pesticide Safety Certification, or willingness to take Grower Pesticide Safety Course.
- Available to work after hours and rotating Weekends as required.

- Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to work independently as required;

- Team attitude and willingness to seek guidance and collaborate to solve problems on a daily basis
- Able to work in a professional and cooperative manner with co-workers and management
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Working Conditions

Ability to stand 8+ hours per day;
Ability to lift to 50 lbs occasionally;
Ability to push 50-100 lbs frequently;
Working in a cool/ warm, humid indoor environment with moderate noise level and around moving machinery;
Must wear steel toe safety shoes/boots

**Salary**: $21.00-$23.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Vineland Station, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
