Copcan has an exciting opportunity for a **Divisional Controller **based in Nanaimo, BC for a maternity leave position. The position will be for a term of approximately 15 months, beginning from the time of hire until June 30, 2024. Norland is a diverse group of 15 businesses, so there is the possibility of full-time employment in another role with Copcan or another business unit at the end of term. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer for Copcan and will be expected to work closely with the General Managers and Project Managers to ensure effective and accurate full cycle accounting for Copcan.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Work with the Accounting Supervisor to oversee and manage AP, AR, Payroll and other activities of the accounting department
- Prepare monthly business unit financial statements and proforma statements
- Prepare working papers supporting the monthly close process and month-end balances
- Conduct monthly project cost reviews and work in progress or deferred revenue analysis
- Financial forecasting, analysis, and variance to budget explanations
- Act as liaison between Copcan and the Director, Operations Accounting for the Civil and Heavy Construction Group
- Ensure alignment of Norland SOP’s to support improved reporting, risk mitigation, governance and control
- Manage and administer accounting software, Explorer Eclipse, and any future software conversions
- Research, track, document and resolve accounting issues
- Manage governmental compliance and regulatory changes including GST, PST, WCB, and payroll taxes
- Maintain projects in Explorer Eclipse, including creating jobs, cost codes and importing estimates
- Ensure accuracy of job costing and all other accounting transactions to drive quality reporting
- Review of bi-weekly payroll to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Prepare daily bank reconciliations and weekly cash reports
- Manage working capital by effective monitoring and control of AR/AP including collections and AR risk reporting
- Act as temporary vacation relief for Accounting Supervisor and Senior Accountant
- Act as liaison between Copcan and the Norland IT department

**Qualifications**:

- CPA Designation with at least 5 years post-designation experience
- Prior experience in supervising accounting staff members, including reviewing their work
- Experience in the construction industry and/or experience in job costing preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, team player willing to work collaboratively towards achieving the strategic goals of the company
