Reporting to the Office Manager, the Canada Summer Jobs Unit Clerk supports the Management team, Human Relations, Activities, and Reception coverage. The Canada Summer Jobs Unit Clerk will gain experience in the day-to-day work of the Centre, including filing and maintaining resident charts and employee files, providing recruitment support, supporting resident programming, and participating in targeted projects in departments across the Centre.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Foster positive relationships with residents, staff, and volunteers
- Maintain the confidentiality of resident, program, and employee files and ensure the efficient processing of documentation
- Participate in resident programming
- Research and compile information as requested for background documents, meetings, committees, statistics, and ad hoc and monthly reports; ensure that deadlines are met
- Participate in the preparation of presentations, brochures, flyers, advertisements, invitations, and certificates
- Perform general office duties such as answering and screening telephone calls; greeting and escorting visitors; filing documents electronically and manually; and photocopying and distributing materials as requested

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- This is an eight (8) week term position based upon 35 hours per week, to end no later than August 31, 2023
- Regular work hours: 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break
- Typical office and seniors’ congregate environment
- Interacts with families, staff, and volunteers

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:

- Young person between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive)
- Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ (International students are not eligible)
- Is legally entitled to work according to Ontario provincial legislation and regulations
- International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid is a benefit

**SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES**:

- Be available for full 8 weeks of program.
- Working knowledge of provincial legislation for Long Term Care, Employment Standards, and/or Human Rights Act is a benefit
- Must exhibit a positive, solution-oriented and customer-focused attitude with a desire to learn
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Display initiative, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Good written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills with the capability and desire to work within a collaborative team in a multi-faceted environment
- Standard working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
