**City Solicitor**:
As the City Solicitor, you will lead the Legal Services team and provide legal services and advice on matters associated with Delta. In this exciting role, you will serve as the City’s chief legal advisor and provide guidance to City Council, the City Manager, senior management and staff on diverse legal, administrative and regulatory matters.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services, the City Solicitor will**:

- Oversee the Risk Manager, administrative staff, and external legal service providers engaged by the City. ;
- Prepare and review written and verbal legal opinions to City Council, the City Manager, senior management and staff;
- Prepare and review development documents, including covenants and statutory rights of way, and attend to the registration of documents and plans in the Land Title Office;
- Draft and revise municipal bylaws;
- Prepare and review agreements and legal documents related to transactions and relationships involving the municipality, including real estate transactions, leases, service agreements, land acquisitions and dispositions, and purchase and sale transactions;
- Support and identify mechanisms that lead to making City operations more efficient and effective.
- Lead recruitment, retention, professional development, and succession planning for Legal Services, including unionized and exempt employees; and
- Perform other related duties.

As in all managerial roles, responsibilities will include mentoring and coaching staff to ensure ongoing learning and growth to support the success of the Legal Services team and City of Delta as a whole.

**Qualifications**:

- A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a recognized law school;
- Current membership, in good standing, with the Law Society of British Columbia;
- A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible, related experience practicing law, ideally with a municipality or firm providing legal services to local government or a similar institution;
- A strong understanding of municipal law, including extensive knowledge of fundamental principles and practices related to local government legislation, municipal bylaws and policies and procedures, is desirable;
- Experience in a management or supervisory role, coupled with strong leadership skills;
- Ability to work with a complex set of stakeholders and build and maintain positive and effective relationships; and
- Exemplary interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and problem-solving skills.
