Under the direction of the Chief Mechanic, the Truck and Coach Technician performs duties related to the daily operations of the Public Works Department involving maintenance of all Municipal vehicles and equipment. The Truck and Coach Technician also assists the Chief Mechanic with scheduling of work, recording of services and ordering of parts, special projects and other duties when called upon. Generally, the Truck and Coach Technician is responsible for diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of tandem & single axle trucks as well as mobile heavy equipment used in road maintenance, construction, snow removal, material handling, landscaping, and similar activities.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Certificate of Qualification for Truck and Coach Technician or Automotive Technician with the ability to obtain Truck and Coach Technician certification within one year of hire
- Class DZ Driver’s License preferred, but not required.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Performs annual safety inspections on trucks and trailers
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications
- Clean, service and perform routine maintenance on all equipment and trucks
- Perform maintenance and repair work on light duty trucks (1/2 tons)
- May attach components and adjust equipment.
- Respond to emergency repairs as required.
- Promote safety and assist in safety training where required.
- Provides maintenance and repair on all Municipal equipment including but not limited to: small engines, stationary generators, fire trucks and fuel tankers
- Ensures that an adequate supply of parts is available for performing work of the department.
- Reports to Chief Mechanic on deficiencies, recommendations or problems in mechanical operations.
- General shop maintenance/cleaning.
