- ordinated approach to connect people to medical services and other programs that build personal resources. By providing services that improve physical, emotional, social and economic well-being, people can better manage their health and environment.

Under the direct supervision of the Among Friends Client Support Specialist working within the overall objectives of the Among Friends Program, the Recreationist develops implements, facilitates, and evaluates health
- promoting social/recreation programs. All programs will be focused on the unique needs of adults who live with mental disorders and are isolated in the community. All programs will be developed with service user collaboration. The Recreationist assists Among Friends members to build supportive social networks, increase mental and physical health and wellness, develop life skills, reduce isolation and strengthen community involvement. In collaboration with the Among Friends Client Support Specialist, the Recreationist assists all staff, students and volunteers.

The incumbent will ensure that all organizational policies are followed.
- Ensure that all organizational policies are followed.
- Develop, implement, facilitate and evaluate programs consistent with member needs, goals and interests which focus on:
Psychosocial Rehabilitation;
Health Promotion;
Healthy Life-Skill Development;
Community education, exploration and involvement; and
Recreation and leisure development.
- Complete comprehensive screening/intakes with potential members.
- Provide instrumental support for members to improve their quality of life.
- Work collaboratively with LAMP programs and community resources to provide service and referrals.
- Actively participate in outreach, advocacy, public education and resource development activities.
- Participate in the ongoing development of peer leaders, volunteers and students.
- Provide input into program budget, staff meetings and organizational reports.
- Encounter group and individual participation into evaluation software.
- Ensure program space is clean both before and after programs.
- Prepare food for large gatherings and snacks for program workshops.

- Create and maintain a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Support and promote the philosophy, goals, objectives and standards of the Among Friends Program.
- Assume other responsibilities as required by Client Support Specialist.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation with a major in Therapeutic Recreation (or equivalent).
- Minimum of one year experience in a community mental health setting.
- Knowledge of OCAN assessments.
- Willingness to work in all aspects of community programming.
- Ability to manage groups in a social/recreation setting and to program and plan events using a member focused approach.
- Ability to foster, on an individual basis, the learning and development of the Among Friends members.
- Ability to provide guidance, support and feedback to members, students and volunteers.
- Ability to balance all job requirements in a busy atmosphere, including responding promptly to all communication.
- Effective multi-tasking skills with excellent attention to detail for accuracy and thoroughness.
- Demonstrate the ability and willingness to align oneself with the values, vision and goals of LAMP

Community Health Centre.
- Confident and professional approach to all individuals with the ability to demonstrate flexibility and remain calm under stress.
- The ability to work effectively in a variety of situations and be able to demonstrate patience when dealing with challenging behaviours.
- Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively across all levels of the organization’s diverse workforce.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas.
- Positive attitude and dependable with strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and in a team oriented atmosphere.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to act quickly and confidently manage difficult and/or tense situations, which at times might involve uncertainty and/or risk.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificates are required and must be kept current every three years.
- A valid Food Handling Certificate is required and must be kept current every three years.
- Knowledge of LAMP Community Health Centre, the South Etobicoke community, and/or a second language that is reflective of the community being served are all preferable assets.
