Material Handler

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Read travelers, job packets, and follow verbal instruction to ascertain required materials, operation, lot size or items/containers to be moved.
- Perform daily equipment pre-start checks and complete checklist.
- Use all personal protective equipment and operate safely to prevent near misses/hits and accidents.
- Position or stack materials and parts in accordance to safe operating procedures at all storage locations and work centers.
- Distribute materials from storage to designated areas or between work centers. Ensure parts identification form is complete before moving the material.
- Visually check newly received materials and packages for damage and report findings to the department supervisor.
- Load and unload materials onto or from pallets/skids by hand or with powered equipment.
- Ensure parts identification form is complete before moving items or material away from work centers.
- Ensure that moved items are correctly transferred in the system
- Perform maintenance checks on lift trucks, hand trucks, skids, strap cutter and racking. Report all findings and coordinate repairs with the department supervisor.
- Stay current with forklift training and license.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations regarding the operation of Forklift machines.
- Report all safety incidents including minor collisions to the department or safety supervisor immediately.
- Inspect in-coming and out-going material for quality and quantity.
- Verify that the quality and quantity of work performed meets Bobrick’s standards. Perform first-off checks and in-process inspections.
- Complete MQRS form and prepare necessary documentation as required.
- Advise the department supervisor when there is shortage of materials and report all quality defects.
- Maintain production process, including the self-balancing flow process in an efficient and effective state.
- Follow lockout/tagout process in the event of machine breakdown and report to department supervisor.
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment by keeping all work areas clean, materials/parts positioned correctly and following safe operating procedures at all times.
- Maintain equipment in good functional order and ensure guards are in place.
- Report hazards and unsafe conditions to department supervisor immediately.
- Report any concern, problems in business or equipment to the department supervisor.
- Continuously participate and recommend new method improvement ideas in writing to the department supervisor.
- Participate and support projects, charter teams and events to meet the company stated goals and budget.
- Able to perform all grade 2 and 3 tasks within the department.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department supervisor.

**Education and/or Experience**:
High school diploma or general education degree; three years related experience in material handling.
Practical understanding of material handling methods, equipment and basic hand tools.
Qualified to operate power lift trucks and use caution around personnel and equipment.
Good knowledge of shop and safety practices.
Work at a safe and consistent pace with mínimal supervision.
**Communication Skills**:
Ability to communicate interruptions to production to the shift captain or supervisor. Articulates safety, quality and production related concerns within the department.
**Language Skills**:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, volt meters and battery gauges.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to present information/speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization in a one-on-one or group setting.
**Computer Skills**:
Ability to learn software and hardware interfaces as new technology is introduced.
**Mathematical Skills**:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
**Reasoning Ability**:
Ability to solve problems under a variety of circumstances.
**Certificates, Licenses, Registrations**:
Must have a valid forklift license.
Machinery safety certification is considered an asset.
Metal fabrication courses are considered an asset.
**Other Skills and Abilities**:
Flexible in job assignment.
Ability to work independently.
