Job Introduction

SSI’s speech program focuses on children whose primary area of need is speech sound production. The role of the Flex Speech-Language Pathologist is to assess and/or provide intervention for children with speech sound disorders, including motor speech disorders. Provide in-person services to children and families from assessment through to discharge in our clinic, with a partial virtual caseload option. In this role, one can access ongoing training and mentorship support from a team of passionate and experienced clinicians. Scheduling is flexible and may include regular business hours and after school based on client needs and clinician availability. Flex clinician compensation is based on direct client billing. Part-time or full-time caseloads are available. A positive attitude, commitment to professional responsibilities, and ability to work as part of a team are essential for this position.

Primary Responsibilities
- Contact families from our waitlist to schedule appropriate assessments and/or treatment(s)
- Assess children referred to the program, following proper policies and age-appropriate procedures to determine the recommended care plan for speech intervention and communicate assessment results to the caregivers
- Provide effective, evidence-informed speech intervention that addresses a client’s speech development and considers their developmental level, motor speech development, language level and executive control abilities. Provide parent/caregivers with information and coaching to help them understand their child’s speech/language/communication strengths/needs and provide them with activities and strategies to support the practice and carryover of skills acquired within the treatment session.
- Complete required documentation in a timely manner in accordance with CASLPO's Documentation Standards and SSI policies and procedures.

**Knowledge, Education & Work Experience**
- Must have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Speech-Language Pathology
- General certificate of registration in good standing with the College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and commitment to complying with the Regulated Health Professions Act and all CASLPO regulations, standards, and guidelines
- Minimum three years of clinical experience in the assessment and management of preschool and/or school-age children with speech sound disorders, including motor speech disorders
- High level of comfort and experience with both virtual care (teletherapy) and in-person care

Skills and Competencies
- Strong clinical skills and familiarity with assessment, identification and the range of interventions/approaches used in speech intervention.
- Additional assets include:

- Participation in The Speech & Stuttering Institute’s Preschool Motor Speech Pathway Training (101 and 201) and/or Motor Speech Treatment Protocol e-learning course
- Training and experience using PROMPT may be beneficial
- Commitment to developing clinical skills and expertise for serving children with speech disorders
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Excellent interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams is an asset
- Ability to learn and use SSI’s practice management/client scheduling system
- Completion of a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory
- Attendance at monthly SSI staff meetings and speech program team meetings is strongly encouraged
