Our Environmental Planning & Ecology East unit provides environmental services for a wide range of federal, provincial, municipal, and private clients. We provide practical environmental solutions for interesting and complex projects throughout Ontario and across Canada.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work closely with MH Fisheries Biologists to plan and conduct field surveys on lakes and in rivers and streams collecting field data for fish communities, aquatic habitat, water quality, aquatic invertebrates, and aquatic and riparian vegetation.
- Work closely with MH Terrestrial Biologists to plan and conduct field work to assess vegetation, wetlands, wildlife and wildlife habitat, and species at risk and their habitats.
- Maintain and organize accurate and detailed field notes and photo documentation.
- Input, maintain and summarize data and information in databases and reports.
- Assist with construction inspection and oversight.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications:

- University degree with a major in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, or similar
- A college diploma or graduate certificate is considered an asset
- Experience in the identification of fish species in Ontario
- Experience interpreting aerial photography
- Experience with backpack electrofishing, certification is considered an asset
- Field skills related to plant identification, avian surveys, or assessment of wildlife and species at risk habitats are considered an asset
- Training and/or certification in Ontario Wetland Evaluation System and Ecological Land Classification is considered an asset
- Knowledge of provincial and federal natural heritage policies and regulations (e.g., Endangered Species Act and Species at Risk Act, and the Conservation Authorities Act)
- Strong technical report writing skills and the ability to summarize field data into technical reports
- Experience in environmental inspection during construction and fish salvage work is an asset
- Must be comfortable and feel safe working in and around water as well as construction sites, often in remote areas
- Proficient with Windows Office (Word, Excel)
- Valid Ontario driver's license
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
